A Canadian tradition, and a ‘reveal’ not to be missed… Tim Horton’s annual Best-Sellers List – with some surprises and exceptions to the usual ‘rule’. Tim’s special 60th Anniversary retro sinkers seem to have skewed the results…
Skewed, but in a good way…
“Tim’s kicked off 2024 by celebrating its 60th anniversary with a lineup of four Retro Donuts: the Blueberry Fritter, Cinnamon Sugar Twist, Dutchie, and Walnut Crunch,” the official news release explains.
“In most of the country, the Walnut Crunch narrowly edged out the Dutchie as the most popular Retro Donut. […] But in Atlantic Canada, Tim’s guests bought almost three times as many Walnut Crunches compared to Dutchies.”
The Apple Fritter held on to the title of the overall Tim Horton’s top-seller for another year, after un-seating the Boston Cream as the cross-Canada top-seller in 2023.
In Quebec, the Honey Cruller continued to be the most beloved Tim’s doughnut. The Honey Cruller is, in fact, so iconic there that it’s affectionately nicknamed ‘the Tractor Wheel’ by fans.
Chocolate Glazed was the most popular Timbit across Canada.
Coffee preference unchanged
As it has for many years, the ‘signature’ Tim Horton’s Double-Double regular Coffee remained the top seller in the beverage category.
For those who are unfamiliar with this Canadian ‘standard’, ‘Double-Double’ refers to the way this order is prepared – with two creams and two sugars. The D-D is smooth enough to please any palate, and packs twice the sugar hit of a ‘regular’ (one cream and one sugar). It’s guaranteed to power even the meekest soul through the coldest weather snaps we experience here in the Great White North!
My take
Having done my patriotic duty and reported the most crucial annual Tim’s statistics, I have one more issue to address. Tim’s official numbers don’t agree with my personal taste in doughnuts.
Say what you will about the retro-fave Walnut Crunchie. Tim’s fans served up a bitter injustice to the beloved Dutchie in the Retro category. But my personal overall favourite Tim’s specialty sinker is, and always has been the Apple Fritter. Hand’s down. No Question. At least they got that one right!
And it seems unreasonable to accept that there wasn’t a single filled doughnut at the top of any ma-jor category, in any part of the country. Still, the unparalleled Boston Cream, with its authentic, silky, pastel-yellow, pastry cream custard filling, was the overall best-seller again in the (unofficial) ‘filled’ category.
I’m putting down all the obvious ‘errors’ to haywire, renegade AI…
