Here’s a pretty thing for a Sunday morning… A new type pf chocolate has been launched onto the market by – who else? – the Swiss. It’s no shade of brown or white but a lovely, rich pink colour which producer Barry Callebaut predicts will be the next big thing in confectionery. And Valentine’s Day…
Officially dubbed Ruby Chocolate, the new delight comes from actual red Cocoa Beans. They’re rare but, now that Barry Callebaut is buying as much as it can get, the new Coca type will doubtless become more available and – we hope – cheaper.
Ruby Chocolate, which was launched officially this past week at an exclusive event in Shanghai, China, is characterized not only by its ‘powder rose’ colour but by its unique flavour, which Barry Callebaut describes as ‘fresh berry-fruitiness’.
The new Chocolate is targeted to Millennials who, Barry Callebaut says, are spearheading a new demand for luxury products that provide instant gratification:
“Consumer research in very different markets confirms that Ruby chocolate not only satisfies a new consumer need found among Millennials – Hedonistic Indulgence – but also high purchase intent at different price points,” spokesman Peter Boone told reporters.
The new confection is not being marketed directly to the public by Barry Callebaut, which sells high-end ingredients to manufacturers of a wide variety of Chocolate products.
“We’re looking forward to working with our partners on introducing this innovative breakthrough to the market and making the new Ruby chocolate category available to chocolate manufacturers and consumers around the world as the fourth reference next to Dark, Milk and White chocolate,” Boone said, in a press statement.
If you have the inclination, the opportunity – and, of course, the cash – be sure to look for Ruby Chocolate when it hits the shelves in consumer products about six months from now – right around Valentine’s Day. And, no, I don’t believe in coincidences.
