Pizza Hut, Cheez-Its partner on savoury ‘Pop Tart’
The latest novelty menu item from Pizza Hut asks the question: What would the love child of a Pizza and a Cheez-Its Cracker look like? The answer is, a savoury-stuffed Cheesy Pop Tart. But Kelloggs isn’t in on the deal. The Cheez-Its Pizza is actually more like a Calzone than a Pizza in as much as it’s a flat Hand Pie whose crispy, Cheesy Crust is stuffed with Cheese or Cheese and Pepperoni, and accompanied by a tub of Marinara for Dipping. Get ’em in orders of 4 starting this week at all Hut locations in the U.S.
KFC goes sweet and savoury With Doughnut Sammy
KFC is testing a new take on Chicken and Waffles this month. It’s actually a Chicken and Doughnuts Sandwich in which a pair of Glazed Doughnuts take the place of the usual Bun. It’s a basic Chicken Breast Fillet on Doughnuts; no condiments or toppings visible in the official portraits. The Sammy looks as if it would be a bit of a messy, sticky critter to eat… You can get the Sandwich solo or as an order of Fried Chicken or Tenders with two Doughnuts for a limited time at any of 41 KFC locations spread across Pennsylvania and Virginia.
Chipotle’s adds Carne Asada…
‘Carne Asada’ is simply Spanish for ‘Grilled Meat’. It’s usually Skirt or Flank Steak marinated with Citrus and other stuff, then grilled. It’s about the easiest thing you could make with the ingredients involved and it forms the basis of many Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes. One Tex-Mex aficionado who’s had the chance to try it says it pretty good and fairly authentic overall. It’s available at all Chipotle locations for a limited time.
…Updates its Queso Sauce
The once troubled chain is also launching a new Cheesier Queso Blanco with White Cheddar and Monterrey Jack Cheese, a blend of three Hot Peppers and a selection of Herbs and Spices. It’s being tested in Dallas, Detroit and San Diego. Sounds good…
Taco Bell adds new Veggie-driven menu selections
The Bell is adding a new Black Bean Quesarito and a Black Bean Crunchwrap expanding its selection of Veggie menu items. They’re pretty much the same as the Bell’s regular Quesarito and Crunchwrap, but with Beans in place of the Bell’s signature Seasoned Ground Beef. The chain actually lists 13 Vegetarian menu items, and you can make other items Veggie by asking your server to substitute Veggie ingredients for non-Veggies ones in most of the other dishes on the menu.
Krispy Kreme Celebrates Coffee with new Filled Doughnut
KK is celebrating National Coffee Day (a week from tomorrow) by offering a special Filled Original Doughnut stuffed and drizzled with Coffee Cream. Sounds great… Better yet, all day on National Coffee Day, Sunday September 29, get a free Original Glazed Doughnut and Small Coffee. Yes, I said free; no purchase required.
Dairy Queen stretches Summer with new Dipped Cone
DQ is bringing back its Butterscotch-dipped Soft Serve Cone for a limited time this fall. The limited time special is being offered at locations across the U.S. It replaces the Dreamsickle-Dipped Cone offered over the summer at participating locations.
