I could eat this stuff all day. And balloon to 300 pounds in as many months. I wouldn’t do that, ever. But it’s an effective metaphor to convey how delicious and addicting today’s dessert can be… It’s called Chocolate Crunch Cake!

Okay – I’ll call it a ‘cake’…
I know I’ve just described it as a Rice Krispies Square. But the creator calls it Chocolate Crunch Cake. That’s a recipe title that’s gone bonzo-viral in the past few weeks. But there’s no single recipe – or even one formula that anyone has agreed on. This one is the closest to the original I could find.
But others include a chocolate cake base layer topped with Rice Krispies ‘crunch’. Or with a layer of crumble, or some other kind of ‘crunch’. Most do agree that you have to top it with Chocolate gan-ache, or at least a choco-glaze. The only other ‘must’ I would insist on is the layer of peanut butter cream just under the ganache…
Simple, dimple…
If you know how to make Rice Krispies Treats, you’ll be able to make CCC in your sleep. But I’ll temper that claim with the observation that Il Bambino does offer some cogent comments and timely tips vis à vis the ganache. It’s not as hard to make as some chefs will tell you!
And that’s about it!
There really isn’t much more to say… Except for a couple ofgeneral observations:
DO make sure you grease your pan generously so the squares some out easily and looking beautiful – as they should…
NOTE that you can turn these amazing squares into Caramel Crunch Cake simply by substituting a caramel ganache, or your fave jarred store-bought caramel sauce, as the top layer. (See photo, top of page.)
My take
If you love Reese’s Peanut Butter cups and adore the ‘frosting’ on a Sacher Torte, you’ll be enthralled by this chewy, gooey totally sinful treat. And if, like me, you’ve had a lifelong amore with Rice Krispies Squares, you’ll put away childish things (i.e.- plain RKSs) and embrace this new, grown-up sweet-tooth crush!
