I wasn’t sure at first what was wrong with the headline on a mass-market cooking magazine I was browsing. Until I realized that some editors out there have finally pushed reality beyond the limits of reality…
The same Caesar Salsda: Over and over again…
So… I’m cruising Delish – as I do a couple of times a month, for inspiration – and I realize Someone over there at Delish has finally gone off their rocker…
Math just doesn’t add up…
The Supreme Headline at the top of the first page of the website reads:
86 Super Salad Recipes
You’ll Make Again & Again
This Summer
That’s a real headline from today’s ‘edition’. So, what’s wrong with it?
I consulted no less an authority than The Old farmer’s Amanack. And MY math is does make sense. There are officially only 57 days left in Summer. And, yet, the Editors at Delish insist you’ve got the time (and stamina) to eat at least 86 more lunches between now and the Fall Equinox.
And they make the further assumption that you’ll be ‘throwing together’ some of their Summer Salads ‘again and again’ between now and then.
Cut ’em some slack?
I’d be more than happy to cut them some slack. If the so-called ‘reasons’ for doing so didn’t involve a laundry list of little white lies (along with some big dark, grey ones). How many different ways can you come up with to say, ‘Carrot’, ‘Street Corn’, Potato’, ‘Tomato’, ‘Caesar’, ‘Cucumber’ and ‘Pasta’, and ‘Zucchini’?
If I see the word ‘Caprese’ one more time between now and Hallowe’en, I think I’ll swear off that otherwise delightful Italian classic for the rest of my life.
My take
Enough! I have my go-to salads in my personal, back-pocket family cook book already. And I’ve cal-culated (at other times over the past couple of years) that 9 out of ten of the so-called ‘new’ ones that keep surfacing in the online cooking magazines are just tired old reworks of the ones I hold dear…
My questions for you:
Do you ever just get tired of it all?
Do you wonder if Donald Trump is an Emeritus Member of the Delish Editorial Board?
Is there any real need to ask whether you ever get tired of Donald Trump?
Do you ever get tired of me?
Would you tell me the truth, if you did?
Muse on that…
