‘Platté’ Gets the Last Smears Out Of The PB Jar!

It’s fun! It’s tasty! It’s creative! It’s newstalgic! It might even qualify as ‘sustainable’… And in the end, it’s recyclable! Hot or Iced, this new bev will definitely elevate your ‘coffee game’ to new heights! And allay one of your greatest frustrations…

‘Platté’ is a ‘portmanteau’, or ‘suitcase’ word which combines the ideas of peanut butter and Latté. Just like the latest crazy (but canny) online culinary craze. But advocates are divided on whether the best part of the bev is the flavour, or the anti-waste angle!

What it is

It’s nothing less than a great idea out of left field that somebody should have had long ago!

It involves nothing more than a double shot of espresso and an empty peanut butter jar.

“There’s always plenty of peanut butter left behind,” inventor  notes. “It may be hard to get out with a knife or spoon—but believe it or not, if you brew a little espresso in there, you can shake the jar and get those leftover bits. It’s a little way to sweeten and wake up your day! I make mine as an iced latte most often, but hot is equally good (some steamed milk is never a bad idea).”

How to make it

Let the espresso stand to cool for a minute or two. You don’t want it to melt the plastic PB jar!

Next, pour the coffee into the mostly empty peanut butter jar.

Screw the lid on TIGHTLY (to ensure a non-leak seal) and shake the jar well.

The espresso should melt most of the peanut butter off the sides of the jar. And the coffee and PB will blend into a smooth mixture.

Fill a glass with ice and pour the peanut butter espresso over it.

Top off with 1/2 cup / 125 ml of your preferred milk.

Stir and enjoy.

There’s no law…

… That says you have to wait for the peanut butter jar to be empty. You can scoop a rough tablespoon out of the jar anytime and add it to the espresso. Just stir until the PB dissolves completely before moving on to the next step.

As for the milk… Gore prefers oat milk. But That’s entirely up to you. Regular Whole Milk is traditional in a latté. Feel free to use any type of milk – animal- or plant-based – that you prefer.

My take

I call it ‘The Luck of the Maggie’ (verbal take on ‘The Gift of the Magi‘). I keep something for years, and the day after I finally throw it out, I need it.

Thus it was when, just this morning, garbage day, hours before I came across this recipe, I finally tossed half a dozen empty PB jars which had been looking for a raison d’être.

Some would call it Fate. I call it just another grubby bubble in the mud puddle of Life…
