Pizza Hut is famous for using off-beat, off-menu tactics in its fight to retain Top Pie status in the Chain Pizza Joint market niche. And it’s been a while since they launched one of their crazy promotional ideas. Their latest comes just in time to stir things up in otherwise placid Pizzaville again!

First, The Hut brought us Pepperoni-scented perfume. Next, it was an app that let users order a Pizza Hut Pie over the internet, via their xBox 360 game console. And then, they partnered with Blockbuster to bring us a Pizza box that converts into a smart phone projector. Mini movie night.
Now…
The Hut has unveiled a new Pie-Top (high-top) Running Shoe in signature red and white emblazoned across the toe with the company’s logo. The Pizza connection? You can order a Pizza from the Hut by simply pushing a button on the tongue. Really.
The promo is, overall, a stunt to ‘kick off’ The Hut’s first season as Official Pizza of the NCAA. Sneaker specialist The Shoe Surgeon of LA is partnering with The Hut to make only 64 pairs of Pie-Tops. It’s not known how many pairs will be available for die-hard Hut fans or even if the Pie Top will be available to the public at all. What a disappointment if, after all the hype, at least a few pairs are not released ‘into the wild’, so to speak. Perhaps there could be as contest…
