McDonald’s Regional Faves Deserve National Exposure

It’s often said that some of McDonald’s best dishes are those you can’t get in your specific McRegion. We’re usually talking ‘country’ in that context. And we earnestly believe some of those deserve national or NA-wide exposure. Today: Some nominees…

Today I wanted to spotlight some of those home-grown curiosities… In hopes that MCD’s might extend them to other regions, or perhaps feature them in the big, national ‘limited-time’ specials rotation…

The crème de la crème

We were lucky enough to catch a whiff of an otherwise inoccuous ‘filler’ post buried in the the nether reaches of the web, featuring one connoisseur’s choice of McD’s ‘unkown best regional delicacies’.

Today, I want to pass-on my nominees for ‘Best of Her Best’…

The SPAM Platter

We’ve mentioned this one in passing a couple of times was on he menu in one of our posts. It’s a nouveau classic in Hawaii, where SPAM is an unofficial ‘national food’. The SPAM platter comes three ways: eggs and rice served with SPAM or Portuguese sausage or both…

The McTeri Deluxe Burger

Not on the McHawaiian permanent menu, but featured in the state’s limited-time specials rotation, this burger looks like a quarter pounder patty, coated in McDonald’s signature teriyaki sauce and topped with lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo on a fluffy bun. I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for anything ‘Teri-yaki’. But this particular mash-up is one that has eluded my imagination until now.

The Denali Big Mac

“Honoring Denali, the tallest peak in North America, this Big Mac has bigger patties (Quarter Pound-ers?) and more special sauce than the Big Macs you can get anywhere else in the States.” Its 2 jumbo patties, and 2 slices of American cheese make it a true mountain of food. And as you might have guessed, its available only in Alaska.

The Steak, Egg, & Cheese Bagel

This hearty breakfast item is considered a staple in some parts of the country. It’s stuffed with steak, scrambled eggs, American cheese, grilled onion, and breakfast sauce, on a ‘toasted, buttery bagel’. (See photo, top of page). Add a layer of lettuce and a slice or two of red, ripe tomato, and it could be served proudly as a main for any meal of the day…

My take

So many great-sounding regional specialties – any of which I honestly believe would be killer fan faves on the national permanent McMenu!

I keep saying this… But why don’t we ever see these inspired, limited-market delicacies at least in the limited-time specials rotation at the national level?
