A few years ago I would have just wished all our faithful readers a ‘Merry Christmas!’ That would be considered the height of un-wokefulness today. But my ultimate goal in be-stowing Holiday wishes upon all rests on a higher plane…
A simplified approach
The established authorities on this issue say – the greeting card companies – say “Happy Holidays!” or “Season’s Greetings!” are ideal ways of expressing equal and inclusive cheer and good will. But even that doesn’t satisfy some folks. They claim those are cop-outs.
My solution
I prefer to put myself above all that stuff and claim higher ground. If you’ve been following this news outlet long enough you’ll already know how I feel about the year-end celebrations.
Throughout the ages, across all cultures and belief systems, sharing a meal has been the single, most-cherished, universal way of expressing the feelings we’re all trying to share this time of year. And as a side note to that, I’ve always believed that the warmth and hope generated by breaking bread together are more important than any other aspect of the many and varied celebrations we partake oft this time of year.
Furthermore, it’s not the food you share, but who you share it with that really makes the day so special…
So… Don’t let the hustle and bustle, and all the other tensions that accompany your big celebration, get in the way of what really counts…
Cheers!
