Fast Food Week: Quick Service Restaurant And Snacks News!

Seems as though the Easter specials have landed in force on the Fast Food front. And there’s an eerie similarity in the colour of more than a couple of the Springtime and Easter treats on our list today…

McDonald’s brings back Spicy Nuggets

McD’s tested these molten-hot Chicken Nuggets back in 2020, and then we never saw them again. Until now. Oddly, they must have tested well in Southern California but not anywhere else, because So Cal is where Spicy Chicken McNuggets are coming back – and nowhere else. They’re all-white-meat chicken chunks covered in a tempura batter dosed with chili peppers. And we hear the incendiary Mighty Sauce that originally accompanied the Spicy Nuggets is back, too…

Buffalo Wild Wings get saucy with Doritos

BWW and Flamin’ Hot Doritos are collabing on a new, limited edition ultra-hot wing sauce. If that’s not hot enough for you, the wings are finished with a handful of crumbled Flamin’ Hot Doritos.

Get ’em while they last, for dine-in, take-out and ordering through the BWW app.

Jack tests Tater Scoops

Jack in the Box’s Loaded Tater Scoops come in two varieties (see photo, top of page): Cheddar Ranch are deep-fried tater slices (which curl up into a scoop while cooking), topped with cheese sauce, bacon chunks, ranch dressing, and shredded cheddar cheese. Spicy Habanero Ranch Loaded Tater Scoops, swap out plain Ranch in favour of Spicy Ranch, and add pickled jalapeno slices. The catch is, they’re available for a limited time only, and only in Bakersfield California.

Krispy Kreme on a roll…

KK is bringing back its Original Glazed Cinnamon Rolls as a permanent menu feature – but only on Sundays. The rolls were previously tried as a limited-time item in September, last year…

And they must have been pretty popular, to rate permanent menu status. Cinnamon Roll Sundays start tomorrow (April 10, 2022) across the chain.

… Rolls out Easter Minis

KK has unveiled its Spring Minis Collection – 4 different Easter egg-themed dunkers: a Mini Chocolate Egg; a Mini Cake Batter Egg; a Mini Strawberries & Kreme Egg; and a Mini Chick. They come in a special ‘basket-inspired’ box, with 4 of each for a total of 16. Available at participating U.S. locations until April 17.

Dairy Queen lets loose a Fruity Blast…

DQ is celebrating spring with a limited-time addition to its dipped cone menu: Fruity Blast. It’s a mauve dip that tastes like fruity cereal – Froot Loops, Fruity Pebbles and their ilk.

Mauve/lilac must be the spring Fast Food special colour of choice: The Fruity Blast dipper is almost the exact same colour as the Blueberry Muffin Kit Kat and the KK Strawberries & Kreme Egg Mini.

… Adds a S’Mores Shake…

DQ’s Summer Shake lineup is headlined by a new S’Mores version, featuring vanilla soft serve and milk blended with marshmallow, graham cracker crumbs and chocolate shavings, and crowned with whipped topping. DQ has hinted that more treats based on the ever-popular campfire treat will be coming out over the summer.

… And a Dirt Pie to Blizzard Lineup

The Dirt Pie Blizzard has a lot of stuff in it: OREO cookie pieces, gummy worms, and fudge crumble. And it joins 5 other new flavours in the 2022 Summer Blizzard lineup:

Caramel Fudge Cheesecake; Girl Scout Thin Mints Cookie; Drumstick with Peanuts; Very Cherry Chip; and Cotton Candy.

Kit Kat goes blueberry for spring

Nabisco has launched a special limited-edition Blueberry Muffin flavour Kit Kat bar. It’s based on classic Kit Kat wafers but the outer chocolate later is ‘Blueberry Muffin’ flavoured, with particles of Graham Cracker powder. The limited time treat comes in regular, king and snack-sized bars, at the usual outlets now.

And that’s the skinny…

On what’s going to be making some of us a little fatter through Easter! See y0ou back here in 7 for the next edition of Fast Food Week!
