U.S. President Donald Trump gave a traditional White House victory supper to the the College Football National Champion Clemson University Tigers last night. That’s not unusual. But he had to think fast when he realized the White House chefs were among those staff furloughed due to the Government Shutdown…
Breakfast (or Supper) of Champions? Just part of the mammoth Fast Food
buffet Trump laid on for the College Football Champion Clemson Tigers
Monday night. To someone’s credit, I do see some Salads, there…
So what did he do? What would you think of first if your were Trump? Yes! He ordered in a mountain of Fast Food. He didn’t show favourites, though. There was something – and in some cases, many different items – from all the usual major Fast Food chains, from a massive Burger array to a Pizza smorgasbord.
“If it’s American, I like it. It’s all American stuff,” he told reporters. “300 Hamburgers, many, many French Fries – all of our favorite foods.”
Couldn’t resist the opportunity to diss the opposition…
White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley said, in a statement: “The President wanted to host a fun event to celebrate the […] Clemson Tigers.” But he was qiuck to add: “Because the Democrats refuse to negotiate on border security, much of the residence staff at the White House is furloughed – so the President is personally paying for the event to be catered.”
No surprise, there…
But what about the players closely supervised diet? Are they technically out of training since the season is over? Do they generally pig out on fast Food in their off time? I think not. These guys are serious about their health.
And did Trump really need to order 300 Burgers? Or was he making sure there would be some left over for a midnight snack later. After all, those White House Chefs are on furlough. But the leftovers from his take-out feast could probably have fed the whole skeleton White House for days. Or did someone (probably not Trump, himself) think to box up the leftovers for donation to a homeless shelter or food bank?
As with most Trump snap decisions, these and other questions will probably go unanswered. Until the Post-Trump Era tell-alls start appearing and the inevitable movies begin screening…
