Trump’s Love Affair With… Meatloaf!

Couldn’t let this one go by, Especially because of all thecritical posts popping up round the Web recently commenting on U.S. President Donald Trump’s eating habits. Politicians and common folks alike are clamouring for his removal from office might best just let nature take its course…

I’m sure some of you remember the H.G. Wells science fiction novel, War of the Worlds. In it, the Martians invade and all our best Earthly weapons and tactics prove futile. In the end, though, the invaders are defeated by an unsuspected guerilla group: Earthly germs. The bad guys simply have no immunity to them and succumb to a variety of bacteria and viruses to which we humans have long-standing immunity and really just take for granted. That is supposed to teach us a lesson.

Return to Trumpville…

A recent post suggests that Donald Trump’s fave food is Meatloaf. When fellow Republican, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie visited the White House recently to lunch with The President, Trump insisted Christie have the Meatloaf, which the Prez described as ‘fabulous’.

Christie told reporters, “This is what it’s like to be with Trump. He says, ‘There’s the menu, you guys order whatever you want.’ And then he says, ‘Chris, you and I are going to have the meatloaf… I’m telling you, the meatloaf is fabulous.'”

Another post identified Meatloaf as ‘a staple’ of Trump’s diet. A survey of his Twitter, Facebook and the online posts over the past year reveals he also loves KFC, Taco Bell Bowls, Popeye’s Chicken and Biscuits and McDonald’s Burgers. Other sources confirm that he loves big, greasy, traditional ‘American’ breakfasts featuring Bacon and Eggs.

Trump told CNN reporter Anderson Cooper, concerning Fast Food, “I’m a very clean person. I like cleanliness, and I think you’re better off going there than maybe someplace that you have no idea where the food’s coming from. It’s a certain standard.”

A dietician weighs in…

The post also quoted nutritionist Jo Travers, author of The Low-Fad Diet, as saying Trump’s diet is actually pretty unhealthful. Too much of the wrong kind of fat can cause mood disorders, Travers notes. Too much protein and Fat can lead to heart disease. Lack of veggies (another overall hallmark of the Trump Diet) can lead to vitamin and mineral deficiency, which can lead to metabolism disorders. All in all, Travers says the Prez’s fave foods are lacking in healthy components. “There’s no roughage. And no fibre impacts on gut health. [And] If you don’t feed your gut bacteria with fruit and vegetables, that can impact the immune system and lead to infections.”

So… what of the future?

To take an admittedly simplistic tack, the Trump Era could end with the gradual decline of the President’s physical and mental health. His chronically-bad diet might eventually reduce his capacity to carry out his duties. Like the Earth Germs killed the Martians. But that might take a long time. Trump’s probably at least a little ‘immune’ to his own diet; it’s not a new thing for him! On the other hand, more than one political opponent and news commentator have suggested he’s already suffering from ‘mood disorders’.

I’ll be watching closely, from the sidelines…
