I almost wept with joy the first time I read this amazingly simple yet luxe-feeling dessert recipe. It takes only three ingredients (four if you count chocolate sauce drizzle), and it literally makes itself in the fridge…
Couldn’t be easier
This elegant, creamy, super-sweet dessert couldn’t be easier to make. Al you need it a little patience, to dunk the cookies in the milk, and you’re home free! The dish makes itself in the fridge, as the cookies soften under the influence of the milk and whipped topping…
Only three ingredients
Nabisco and Cool Whip have already done most of the work.
The ‘recipe’ calls for Double Stuf OREOs. You probably shouldn’t try to substitute any other cookie in this dish. But once you get the hang of it, and develop a sense of what flavours will work well with the whip, you could experiment with others. I’m dying to try this recipe with Maple Creams or OREO Mint Crèmes…
All you have to do is dip the cookies in the milk and arrange them neatly in the bottom of a standard Pyrex baking dish. Start with a layer of cookies, then add a layer of whipped topping. Then, another layer of cookies and another layer of topping. And repeat the layers for a total of three each.
Recipe contributor @foodieshares doesn’t specifically say so, but I think you’d be more than justified to add sprinkles or whatever other ‘garnish’ you like. Just be sure to finish the dish by topping each serv-ing with a generous drizzle of chocolate sauce…
The secret…
… Is in the fridge time. It doesn’t take long, but you must let the dish rest in the fridge for a while to allow the cookies to soften. This is essential for easy, eye-pleasing serving. Refrigeration also optim-izes the whip’s firmness – another serving factor.
By way of a hack… You could take a page from the fast food industry handbook on ‘inclusions’, and crush the cookies in a blender or food processor. The cookie crumbs can then just be spooned over the whip in layers, as instructed, or ‘swirled’ into the whip like a DQ Blizzard, or a Shake Shack shake.
And… You could use Caramel Sauce or even Strawberry Sauce in place of the drizzle of chocolate sauce that’s called for. Such enhancement is entirely unnecessary, as far as I’m concerned. But the choice is entirely up to you…
My take
Given the opportunity, I could eat this stuff all day long. But that would be nuts. There wouldn’t be any left for anybody else. And one of the main points to this dessert is to impress friends and family with your creativity and culinary skill!
