What IS there to say? Except that off in Exotic Asia, in one of the most unspoiled countries within that realm, there lies a McSecret that few outside know. Malaysians are the world’s biggest fans of McDonald’s Fries…
For comparison: The official McFries sizes. Large (rear, left.) medium
(rear, right.) and small (front, left.). Celebratory XXL (centre, rear).
I can’t even finish a ‘regular’ Large sized McDonald’s fries anymore. To be fair I always had trouble stuffing down a whole max-sized sleeve of the things, no matter how hungry I had been when I ordered, or how fresh and hot they were! But how about an ‘XXL’ fries?
What’s the deal?
Apparently, Malaysians hold the unofficial per capita record for consumption of McDonald’s Fries. And to celebrate International Fry day last week, McDonald’s Malaysia offered something they’ve never offered anywhere before: an XXL-sized order fries…
McDonald’s Malaysia turned Kuala Lampur’s largest commercial square
into to a celebration if its beloved Fries for International Fries Day…
Just exactly how big WAS it?
Special fry sleeves were commissioned, which fans and reviewers estimated were equal in volume to two ‘regular’ XL Fries containers, glued side-by-side. The actual volume was reckoned as a little more than that, based on how full your particular McDonald’s fry-station operator might fill yours.
This all-time-record official serving of fries, however, was not deemed ‘enough’ to consolidate a celebration, though. Malaysian fans demanded an XXL fries plus an additional Small Fries to render the special truly ‘SPECIAL’. Throw in a beverage, and you have what they called the ‘Fan Fries Meal…
(Double checks…)
Yup. Fries, more fries and nothing but fries. So help me God.
Health concerns?
Nope. Apparently not. Anyway…
“At McDonald’s Malaysia, we’re not just in the business of serving meals – we’re in the business of creating delicious feel-good moments,” says Chin Mei Lee, Chief Marketing Officer, McDonald’s Malaysia. “Whether it’s a bold visual spectacle or a simple shared meal, we’re always finding fresh, creative ways to connect with our customers and bring joy to their everyday lives.”
My take
That’s the first time – and probably the last time, for a long time, you’ll see McDonald’s XXL Fries ‘in the wild’.
Enjoy the very sight of ’em as much as a Malaysian McFan who hasn’t eaten in a week would relish ’em in person!
