Fast Food Week! Quick Service Resto And Snacks News…

Easter Weekend is upon us – and that means the end of a whole bunch of seasonal specials in the Fast Food sphere. But fear not! There’s always another ‘holiday’ coming up. Our top picks from this week’s unveilings and announcements come from Burger King, Coke and Walmart…

Coke, Sprite and Dasani Water – in exclusive new STAR WARS Livery…

Carl’s Jr. celebrates 4/20 in high style

Today is April 20, and the usual 4/20 parties are expected to materialize out of the smoke of thousands of Cannabis joints that will be lit at 4:20 this afternoon around the world. While the origin of the 4/20 thing is shrouded in  legend, it seems that many Weed users agree 4:20 is the correct time to break out the Herb – like 5:00 being cocktail hour. Celebrations are expected to be somewhat attenuated here in Canada, since Recreational Cannabis has been legal here for just over a year. But Pot fans elsewhere are expected to stage mega blow-outs in their gesture of civil disobedience.

In Colorado, where Weed is also legal, Carl’s Jr. at 4050 Colorado Blvd. in Denver is preparing to serve the first ever Fast Food Burger garnished with CBD Oil (see photo top of page). That’s Cannabis extract that has had the psychoactive components removed. Still, CDB is said to offer a plethora of mental and physical health and wellness benefits. We’ll see. The Rocky Mountain High: Cheeseburger Delight features two big Beef Patties topped with Pepper Jack Cheese, Pickled Jalapeño rounds, Fries, and a CBD-infused Santa Fe Sauce. Yes folks: the secret really is in the sauce!

BK Whopper gets Angry, for a limited time…

Burger King is bringing back it’s ultra-spicy Angry Whopper for a limited time. It’s based on a regular Whopper (keeping the Tomatoes, Lettuce and Mayo), but they replace the Ketchup and Sliced Onions with Bacon, Crispy Onions, Jalapeños, and Angry Sauce. It’s pretty spicy. BK served the Angry Whopper with a slice of Habañero-infused Cheese previously. No indication of whether they’re planning to do that this time.

…Tests Honey Hot Chicken Sandwich

Following a trend that’s kind of crept up on Fast Food fans over the past few months, Burger King is test-marketing a new Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich at selected locations in Ohio. Starting with one of BK’s Toasted Potato Bread buns, they add two layers of Honey Hot Sauce, thick-cut Bacon and a White Meat Chicken Filet, topped with Onion, and Pickles. You can choose between BK’s Grilled Chicken Filet, Crispy Chicken Filet, or Spicy Crispy Chicken Filet. Hot Honey Chicken menu items are already being offered by KFC and Popeye’s.

Disneyland and Coke partner for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

For those who don’t already know, Galaxy’s Edge is the title of STAR WARS IX, which is expected to be the final episode of the Star Wars canon. Coke is providing a limited number of special Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite bottles in the shape of one of those magical, spherical rolling droids. (See promo video above.) They’re actually kind of cute looking. Get em’ only at Disneyland, while supplies last.

Walmart releases Chocolate-stuffed marshmallows

Who would pass up the chance top try these amazing-sounding treats? Large Marshmallows with a liberal stuffing of ‘Real Chocolate’. They will be great for snacking by themselves, but add Graham Crackers and you’ve got foolproof, instant S’Mores! Just heat ’em over the campfire and sandwich between Cracker squares. No fuss, no muss, no bother. And nothing wasted when it falls in the fire. Coming to all Walmart locations April 28.

Klondike expands Minis line

Klondike – the unchallenged masters of the Chocolate-Coated Ice Cream Bar – are adding two new flavours to their Minis line: Double Chocolate (Chocolate Ice Cream with a Milk Chocolate Coating), and Mint Chocolate (Mint Ice Cream enrobed in rich Dark Chocolate). Klondike doesn’t say anything about these new delights being limited-time specials, so let’s hope they stay around at least until this fall.

And that’s the skinny…

…on what’s going to be making some of us fatter this Spring. See you back here in seven for the next edition of Fast Food Week!
