Here we go with another oddball sort of edition of Fast Food Week! This time, we have four distinct categories of news blurbs: Valentine’s specials, limited-time treats, new snacks, and a slew of international and novelty alerts. I was expecting more Valentine’s stuff, but that tide may still come in next week…
Dunkin’s does Omelet Bites
Another addition to its special winter treats menu. Dunkin’s introduces a new breakfast selection: Bacon & Cheddar and Egg White & Veggie Omelet Bites.
Haven’t tried them, but they appear to be what you might call ‘half bagels’. You get 2 to an order (i.e.- a full bagel). Now… Let’s see if they up the ante, and bring them back later this year with toppings!
New dairy milk alternative
Silk NextMilk is perfect for vegans and and vegetarians (and folks sensitive or allergic to dairy milk) since it’s made from soy beans, contains of the key nutrients found naturally in cow’s milk, and comes in whole fat and reduced fat versions. One reviewer says it’s the best tasting plant-based milk substitute he’s tasted yet.
Cheezit Puffs self up
Not an ego thing, but a real, enlarging puff. You’ve seen the commercials on TV about the new cheesier, crispier Cheezits.
Now they’re ‘cheesy, airy and puffy’, and come in three proven fan-fave flavours: Double Cheese, White Cheddar and Scorchin’ Hot Cheddar. Cheezit Puffed snack crackers will arrive in stores sometime next month.
Little Debbie reprises Valentines snack cakes
The iconic purveyor of snack cakes brings back ‘Be My Valentine’s’ Vanilla Snack Cakes and ‘Be My Valentine’s’ Iced Brownies for a limited time. The Cakes are topped with Vanilla Frosting and a drizzle. The Brownies are frosted in red with sprinkles. Get ’em in boxes of 5 20-cake packs, while supplies last.
M&Ms launches Valentines products
M&Ms is offering a slew of romance-themed gifts including an M&M’s ‘Occasions’ champagne Bottle, an M&M’s ‘[Love You’ dispenser, and a selection of gift boxes. Novelty Alert: Oscar Meyer ‘beauty’ product?
The Wienermobile guys have apparently branched out from deli meats and hot dogs to beauty products. But I’m pretty sure it’s just a silly promotional stunt.
Anyway, seems somebody at OM remembered making bologna masks as a kid and made the cosmic leap to a beauty mask (bologna being a similar colour to some existing skin treatment masks). It’s made by a Korean outfit called Seoul Mamas, and it’s available for a limited time only on Amazon.com for $5 a pop. Or slice, if you prefer.
Interntional Alert! First Italian hot sauce bubbles up
If you grew up when I did, I’ll bet your first experience with chili peppers was in an Italian restaurant when someone suggested you sprinkle some of those innocuous-looking dry flakes on your spaghetti. Well, Tex Mex and other cuisines have eclipsed Italian in the heat department, but the home of da Vinci is vaulting itself into the 21st century with it’s first hot sauce. The maker, Firelli, says the product is specifically made to be used on pizza – an American innovation. Just proves how important the U.S. market is to exporters. The sauce is made with certified Italian Balsamic Vinegar and Calabrian chilies.
International Alert: Spicy Garlic McNuggets
McDonald’s Japan is frying up new Peppercorn Garlic Spicy Chicken McNuggets. With Garlic Soy Sauce Mayo Sauce and Smoked Cheese Sauce on the side.
Set your taste buds afire with coarse-ground black pepper, garlic, white pepper and chilis. They may never come To North America. But if you’re going to Japan, Peppercorn Garlic Spicy Chicken McNuggets will be available for a limited time.
International Alert: BK Malaysia does Japanese Curry
Sounds like an unlikely combination of cultures and flavours. But it’s the latest thing from the funky flavour folks at BK Malaysia. And it’s not a burger. It’s a Salmon Sandwich! And it’s a limited time addition to the BKM menu that already boasts a Japanese Curry Whopper and a Japanese Curry Chick’N Crisp sandwich. Love those BK Malaysia guys and gals. You can always count on them for something wacky!
