The Fall Fast Food freight train is up to full speed. Lots of new deals – with a focus on Value offerings. And there are some nifty new snacks, including Dorito’s Ketchup and Mustard and Lay’s beloved All-Dressed…
The rundown…
A little bit of everything this week… Focusing on new deals and returning menu faves!
Mains
McDonald’s intros new Breakfast Wraps
Substantial is the best word to describe these new day-starters. Choose from: Sausage, Bacon and Egg; Chicken; and Spicy Egg and Harsh Brown. Each comes appropriately dressed, in a warm flour tortilla. The catch is, they’re only available in Canada. At least for now. It’s the first time the chain has offered breakfast wraps, though they have had other wraps on the menu for some time.
Popeye’s offers new $5 Chicken ‘straight-up’ deal
The Chicken it the chain’s signature marinated battered crispy standard. You get three pieces à la carte for $5. It’s seen by some as a head-to-head challenge to KFC, which is also offering a slate of $5 Chicken deals.
Looks like Popeye’s deal is around until the end of the month – which, coincidentally, is National Chicken Month!
Jack In The Box rolling out Hallowe’en specials
The first is the returning Monster Taco, which this year is accompanied by a ‘ Mummy-Wrapped’ version. Either way, it comes stuffed with seasoned taco meat, shredded lettuce, American (processed) cheese, and taco sauce. The Mummy Wrap features two tortillas interspersed with a layer of nacho cheese and bacon bits, for an extra $1.50.
Panera offers ‘Salad or Sandwich’ Fall deal
You can get either a whole Chicken Bacon Rancher Sandwich or a regular-sized Fuji Apple Chicken Salad for $7.99. It’s at participating locations across the US…
… but only when you order digitally, using the promo code ‘FALLDEAL’. These entrées include you choice of: part of a French baguette, an apple, or bag of chips.
Denny’s brings back $2 $4 $6 $8 $10 menu
Technically not a Fast Food joint, you can get their stuff to go. And as such their returning ‘value’ menu is worth a look. The selection offers all Denny’s top-Breakfast sellers, gives you a selection at each price point, and lets you chose one or more price points. Some of the items don’t exactly strike me as ‘value’ options: for instance, 2 slices of brioche toast or 2 pancakes for $2, for instance. But have a look, nonetheless…
Wendy’s offers new $5 Big Noon Saucy Deal
Big Noon Kickoff is a Fox show that covers college football. The Deal is a tight collab with the show. You get a 6-piece order of Saucy Nuggs, a small order of fries, and a small soft drink.
And it gives Wendy’s a new $5 price point Value item to replace its Biggie Bag promotion. The limited time deal is only available by ordering via the Wendy’s website or mobile app.
White Castle puts Cheese Sliders in the freezer case
The Castle is offering 4-packs of its Double Cheese Sliders in your local supermarket’s freezer case. Featuring two patties and three bun slices. Check out the location finder for the White Castle supermarket source nearest you… And while you’re there, stock up. This is a limited-time deal…
Sides
Domino’s branching out with Mac & Cheese
The pizza giant is adding a non-pizza-oriented dish to its main menu for the first time. The daring item dish is… Mac & Cheese!
Their’s is special: using Penne Pasta and a four-cheese blend of American, cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan-Asiago. If that wasn’t cheesy enough, they’re topping it with Alfredo Sauce. There’s also a Spicy Buffalo 5-Cheese version which adds a splash of Buffalo Sauce.
Beverages
Pepsi pours new Drips’
Pepsi recently landed third in the international soda ratings, for the first time ever. And that had observers wondering what the beverage giant would do to try and climb back into second place (at least). The new Pepsi Drip campaign may be an answer to those questions. The are 8 new Drip favours, each a blend à la other chains’ fancier bevs. Pepsi is débuting Drips via a new roaming food truck which will pop up in various locations around New York City now through September 29…
Snacks and Desserts
Lay’s blasts out All-Dressed Ccips!
The wait is over, fans! Lay’s has brought back All-Dressed chips in the US after almost a decade’s absence. The legendary flavour – a Canadian staple – is among those Great White North delicacies that Americans bring back by the case when they visit…
Krispy Kreme serves up new Golden Harvest Collection
The featured doughnuts include: Maple Buttercream, Oatmeal Kreme Pie, Salted Caramel Cheesecake, and Spiced Apple Filled.
KK brought back it’s famous Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnut last month, and it will remain available through November 28.
Shaq the face of new Hershey’s Gumnmies
Shaquille O’Neal is larger than life. And his new Shaq-A-Licious gummies are XL, to suit his personal style. The Peach, Berry and Orange flavour ‘Originals’ pack come embossed with his smiling face. The Watermelon, Mixed Berry and Pineapple ‘Sour’ medley come in the appropriate shapes and colours. O’Neal grins: “So go ahead, bite my head off! Life’s too short not to have fun!”
Novelties
Doritos splashes out Ketchup and Mustard
But only (for now at least) in Brazil. Why, I ask you, of all places, Brazil? Canada would have been by far the most logical logical première market. We already adore Ketcup and All-Dressed chips!
The answer, probably, is that the Canadian market is too small. Brazil has a population of more than 215 million. Canada has only about 39 million people. Nevertheless…
And that’s the skinny…
… On what’s going to be making some of us a little more splurge-prone in the days and weeks to come. See you back here in 7 for the next cornucopial edition of Fast Food Week!
