There’s a ton of Snacks news this week, from OREOs, McDonald’s, Chips Ahoy!, Sour Patch, Pop Tarts, Sour Patch and Kit Kat. On the main menu, there’s Sandwich news from Arby’s and Nachos news from Taco Bell. And Canada Dry is bringing back a dear old favourite Holiday Flavour…

Arby’s unveils two new ‘Brunch’ Sandwiches…
Arby’s is getting into the Breakfast Game big time with a pair of new ‘Brunch’ Sandwiches. The The Bacon, Ham & Egg Brunch Sandwich features Ham, a freshly cracked Egg, Cinnamon-Sugar Bacon, a Home Fries-like Potato Cake and French Toast sauce on a regular Arby’s Bun. The Brisket, Avocado & Egg Brunch Sandwich contains the same Egg and Potato Cake with American (Processed) Cheese and Avocado Spread. It’s a market test menu item at selected Ohio Arby’s locations for now, but they have all the earmarks of winners which will eventually be rolled out across the chain.
… And Two new Southern Smokehouse BBQ Sandwiches
The two new holiday special Sammys are built on Arby’s Brisket topped either with Mac and Cheese or Cole Slaw. You also get Onion Strings and Barbecue Sauce with both, all on a Corn Bread Bun. They sound tasty, but I wonder how easy they are to eat? And how messy? Or does that really matter?
Taco Bell brings back Nachos Party Pack
TB tried these out this past September and it appears they scored with fans. They’ll be available starting December 26 with no published end date. The 12-pack of customizable Nachos offers a choice of Regular Taco, Supreme Taco, Variety Pack, Supreme Variety, and Taco & Burrito. All varieties feature Tortilla Chips topped with differnt fillings, including: Refried Beans, Seasoned Beef, Nacho Cheese Sauce, reduced fat Sour Cream, Pico de Gallo, Guacamole, and Jalapeños.
McDonald’s teams up with OREOs
Last week in this space we announced that McD’s has brought back its iconic Holiday Cream Pie at participating locations. Now, it’s débuting a new collab with OREOs: A Cookies & Cream Pie made with real OREOS. The Crust of this rich creation is dark brown and crispy, like a fried OREO wafer. The filling is a gooey riff on Pastry Cream with a Tan / Café au Lait hue. I’d love to tell you what it tastes like, but I’ve only seen it, thus far. That’s because it’s only available in Malaysia, thus far. Speed it to North America, please, McD’s!
Chips Ahoy! collabing with Sour Patch
The hugely popular Chicolate Chip Cookie, Chips Ahoy! will be adding Sour Patch Cookies next month. They’ll be somewhat different, batter wise, than Chips Ahoy!s and they’ll feature Sour Patch Candy chunks instead of Chocolate Chips.
Pop Tarts issue another new flavour
This time it’s Fruit Loops, a collab with the ever-popular kids’ sugar bomb cereal of the same name. Lucky folks who’ve tasted them say they taste just like the Cereal, but have a Fruit-Jelly textured filling. They’re available at sedlected locations this holiday season and are not yet officially listed on the Pop Tarts permanent roster. Look for them in packs of 16 Pies only, and they’re not available at Walmart.
Kit Kat confirms six new flavours
Kit Kat – the Candy Bar made for sharing – has confirmed it will introduce six new flavours in 2020: Cherry Cola, Chocolate Cream Pie, Cotton Candy, Apple Pie, Birthday Cake, and Orange Creamsicle. Talk about exploding onto the scene! Kit Cat has floated new flavours before, in limited time offers, but never a whole team like this. They’re not saying if this release is another market testing exerecise, designed to determine which new flavours will fly, but that’s entirely possible.
