After discussing it with Sister Erin… We’ve decided there are folks out there crazy enough to actually do what the latest viral online pregnancy reveal story claims. And they’ve definitely crossed a line…
The double line on the little screen of the pregnancy test wand, that is. But we’ll get around to that shortly.
What she did
The real question is, how does one tastefully, with dignity, get around all the gross, disgusted reac-tions to this woman’s admittedly creative – hopefully unique – way of revealing the pregnan-cy to her partner?

you just don’t cross…

“Just for fun” – I imagine she would have attempted to rationalize her little prank. The woman is reported to have used the used the wand from her latest pregnancy test as the stick in a homemade pop-sicle. Which she gave her husband after a long, especially hot day at work.
Only after consuming the whole thing, the post claims, did he realize what was going on.
You, in the back!
Stop snickering! This is serious stuff!
Anyway…
Delish contributor Amanda Mactas asks her readers… “Are people these days doing everything for clout and shock value?” And immediately moves on, not really wanting to get into any sort of detailed discussion. “As it turns out, yes, that seems to be the case.”
Then, she shared some examples of what commentors to the Instagram post where she first saw the story had to say…
As extreme as I’ve ever seen…
“Straight to jail!!!!” one person exclaimed.
“You know what? It’s my [own] fault for having internet,” one commentor (probably a naturally-apologetic Canadian) wrote.
“We really need to bring back common sense,” a fourth follower chimed in.
“Let’s go back to the good old days, shall we?” Mactas concluded.
That was as far as she was willing to go on the matter.
Not me.
My take
‘Straight to jail!’? Probably not. At least not with the weight that social principles such as ‘consenting adults’, and ‘privacy expectations’ still carry under US law.
‘Go back to the good old days…’? You can’t un-ring the bell. The wand has, literally, been waved. And the Genie has been released from the bottle. For better or worse.
‘Bring back common sense’? Bring it back? From what I can tell, common sense never had anything to do with this crazy episode. Which brings us back, however, to: “Are people these days doing every-thing for clout and shock value?”
I think we can all agree with Mactas on that…
