The big $1 million Burger King New Whopper contest is rolling along apace. On track to reveal its winner early next year. The three $1M Whopper finalists are on the menu now for you to try. You can vote for your fave while they last…
Meanwhile, BK is offering members of its Royal Perks rewards program ‘thank-you-for-participating’ Whoppers for just $1 through the BK app. There are 1 million ‘thank-you’ Whoppers up for grabs…
Shot itself in the foot?
Why only loyalty program members who took part, submitting proposed new Whopper recipes, can get the symbolically-priced ‘thank-you’ burgers remains a mystery. And I’m frankly surprised there hasn’t been a hew and cry from those participants who have been left out of the ‘thank-you’ gesture.
Bad form, BK! Looks like you’ve shot yourselves in the food with this one…
The contenders…
The three contest finalists are as follows:
Fried Pickle Ranch Whopper
Created by Fabian from California (arguably, the most ‘food-forward’ State in the Union)
“A quarter-pound flame-grilled beef patty, pickle ranch, lettuce, crispy-fried pickles, bacon, and Swiss cheese, served on a toasted sesame seed bun.”
Maple Bourbon BBQ Whopper
Created by Calvin from California (also, arguably, the grillingest State in the Union)
“A quarter-pound flame-grilled beef patty maple bourbon BBQ sauce, crispy-fried onions, crispy-fried jalapenos, smoky maple candied bacon, and American cheese, served on a toasted sesame seed bun.”
Mexican Street Corn Whopper
Created by Kelsie from Nebraska (arguably, the corniest State in the Union – Go Cornhuskers!)
“A quarter-pound flame-grilled beef patty, creamy street corn spread, lettuce, tomato, crunchy tortilla crisps, and spicy queso, served on a toasted sesame seed bun.”
My take
My one observation about the three contest finalists – based solely on the descriptions supplied by BK (quoted above) – is: They all sound equally intriguing and tasty. Just in different ways. Which would make it all the harder for me to decide on a favourite. Although the Maple Bourbon BBQ Whopper does offer the attraction of a Maple flavour component and an unabashed ‘BBQ’ identity, both of which hold special, intrinsic appeal for me…
While you have to be a Royal Perks member to get a $1 Whopper, it appears anyone can vote for their fave from among the three finalists showcased above, via the BK app or the website…
