It’s officially National Cheeseburger Day in the US. And more than 4 out of 5 Americans will be celeb-rating. The rest don’t have, “a positive opinion of cheeseburgers,” according to the latest Survey of the Most Popular American Dishes by YouGov…
YouGov discovered that all but one of the top 5 fav-ourite ‘American’ foods are Fast Foods. And they’re all members of the Burger Meal Family…
No surprise, I guess…
The number one fave American Food was… The Grilled Cheese Sandwich! but the remaining members of the Top 5 were, in descending order:
-
- French Fries – 85 % (Tied with the Grilled Cheese)
- Hamburgers – 84 %
- Hash Browns – 84 %
- Cheeseburgers – 84 %
Perhaps the most striking finding from the survey was an ‘unspoken’ one: Americans overwhelmingly prefer Fast Food burgers over other foods. Even those that are traditionally part of family celebrat-ions, and iconic dishes such as steak, ribs, fried chicken, wings and even apple pie.
Impressive stats…
Each and every American consumed, on average, 20 cheeseburgers from foodservice establishments over the 12-month period ending July 2026, according to research firm Circana’s CREST tracking data. That’s 6.9 billion cheeseburgers. Men eat more cheeseburgers (an average of 24 per month) than women (17), according to Circana.
Worth celebrating
By all measures, the American Cheeseburger is an icon and a legend worthy of celebration.
If you intend to be among the millions who will step up and order a cheeseburger today, we suggest you consult USA Today’s comprehensive list of National Cheeseburger Day specials being offered by a wide variety of Fast Food joints…
My take
Even if you’re trying to eat healthier, one cheeseburger in who-knows-how-long won’t hurt…
