Canada’s legendary Tim Horton’s raised more than $1.3 million for the Special Olympics. Again this year, the company created a special doughnut, all proceeds from which went to the SO’s… And broke its own community fundraising record!
“This campaign shows what’s possible when Canadians choose to include,” says Gail Hamamoto, CEO of Special Olympics Canada said in a news release.
“Every Special Olympics Donut purchased will help open doors for athletes of all ages and abilities across the country – fuelling confidence, connection, and oppor-tunity through sport.”
“We are deeply grateful to our partner Tim Hortons, their restaurant owners, team members, guests, our Special Olympics community and every sup-porter who believes in the power of inclusion – in sport and in life,” Hamamoto added.
The 2026 Special Olympics Doughnut sold for $200 (plus taxes). That trans-lates to 650,000 special edition doughnuts sold! The funds raised from Special Olympics Doughnut support year-round, inclusive sport programs for more than 40,000 athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities in communities across Canada.
2026 marks the 10th anniversary of Tim’s as a Platinum National Sponsor of the Special Olympics.
Tim’s take a bow…
“We’re so proud of Tim Horton’s restaurant owners and their team members from across the country for raising $1.3 million through Special Olympics Donuts,” says Axel Schwan, President of Tim Hortons. “Thank you to Tim’s guests for their incredible support. Your generosity is helping to make sports more accessible for Special Olympics athletes.”
My take
Tim’s may now be owned by an American holding company. But it’s still a truly Canadian ‘tradition’, with more than 4,000 locations, from Atlantic to Pacific, in all provinces and territories.
And it continues to rededicate its self to Canadian folks and Canadian causes every year with pro-grams such as the Special Olympics Doughnut Campaign.
Let’s all raise a double-doubled to toast Tim’s – a Canadian legend!
