Sunday Musings: ‘Crunchy Sangria’ A Bad Idea?

What’s this? Scolding ME for publishing a Bad Idea here at the FFB? I’d NEVER do so intentionally. So what did I miss? A concerned parent says an ice cube tray full of Sangria cubes could be mistaken for a kids’ treat – by kids…

have a lab-grade freezer intended for super-cold experiments…

Aaaw, c’mon! Or, on the other hand – your challenge is entirely justified… This complaint could be valid or not – depending on the context.

My ‘one good excuse’…

I very rarely have kids visiting my house. NEVER running around unsupervised. And if I did, I’d store my Crunchy Sangria ice cubes downstairs in the big freezer with the locking door.

Their ‘crux’…

But that was the crux of the issue raised by a young parent, still new enough to the game to be overtly (and annoyingly) concerned with ‘childproofing’ their home. I can tell you from experience – and observation of many young couples – that some parents will spend any amount of time and money on all manner of childproofing gadgets and preparations. And still have doubts about whether they’ve done right by the new focus of their lives…

Third party observations…

One point that folks who support my position is… One lick of a Sangria Cube and any small kid would know, by the taste of alcohol and the bold ‘swourness’ of its overall flavour profile, that the thing – whatever it is – is NOT intended for their consumption.

The rebuttal, there, is: what about the legions of kids who get sick annually from improperly-stored alcoholic beverages, cannabis edibles and other ‘adult-intended ‘treats?

Points taken. On both sides…

My questions to you:

Substituting yourself into this scenario… Would you be the parents or me?

How highly do you rate the danger posed by leaving Sangria Cubes unattended in an unlocked freezer?

As a third-party observer… Which side would you support in this discussion? Why?

Muse on that…
