This is the first such mention I’ve seen this season about any special gesture towards the brave men and women of our military. In spite of its current financial troubles, Red Lobster is reaching out to veterans and serving members with free shrimp and chips…
Red Lobster has not shown the same signs of extreme stress here in Canada as it has in the US. But the stress is still there, just the same. And whatever happens in the US during the rebuilding of the imperiled seafood chain will certainly reverberate north of the border.
But for now…
Participating Canadian and US Red Lobster locations are offering a thoughtful promo recognising the contribution to home defence and international peace-keeping of our militaries.
Active members and veterans alike can come in this Monday, November 11 – Remembrance Day – for a free repast. And it comes with a touch of class: featuring six hand-breaded, butterflied and lightly fried Walt’s shrimp, served with cocktail sauce, crispy French Fries and Coleslaw.
(Note: The official news release advises… The offer is available for dine-in only, at participating loca-tions in Canada and the US. Beverage, tax and gratuity not included. No substitutions or modifica-tions. One redemption per customer. Must show military ID or proof of service.)
A broader commitment
The Remembrance Day deal is part of a larger, wider commitment to the armed forces personnel. Red Lobster hastens to remind us, it extends a standing 10 percent discount to all forces members ‘each and every day’, on anything on the menu.
And it can’t hurt to remind all seafood lovers out there that the chain is still ‘alive and floppin’ during ‘reconstruction’.
My take
It’s a nice gesture. And it probably won’t cost those participating locations all that much. After all, the offer is only good for dine-in visits. So only vets and current military members off-duty will be able to take part.
But I can tell you – because I know a number of these folks personally – that veterans will really ap-preciate the chance to partake of the special meal. It’s a dirty little secret, but many military veterans are living on fixed incomes and probably couldn’t afford shrimp on their own tight budgets.
Thank you, Red Lobster!
