We usually hear about major corporate donations to ‘The Food Bank’ as being expressed in cash. The average person gives a few dollars or helps fill the supermarket drop box. But Purolator is giving the Food Bank a unique gift this year…
You see them everywhere… The familiar white Purolator delivery vans that scoot all over the place couriering all sorts of shipments to just about every address on the map. But now, superannuated delivery vans are being refurbished as pick-up and delivery vehicles for eight food banks across Canada…
Building on success
The official news release notes, this initiative builds on Purolator’s 2024 donation of a truck to Feed Scarborough, which was transformed into a food truck to help the organization deliver hot meals directly to neighbourhoods where the need is greatest.
“Aligned with our commitment to address food insecurity and our focus on continuous improvement, we were able to source these trucks and share them with food banks to make a meaningful impact,” said Cindy Bailey, Vice-President and Corporate Sustainability Officer, Purolator. “We’re proud to pro-vide resources that enable food banks to deliver vital support to Canadians who need it most.”
Solid commitment
Purolator’s employees, customers, and partners are on track to deliver more than 2.6 million lb. [1.18 million kg] of food to Canadian food banks this year, a record amount in the program’s history.
As well, the company is planning to expand it’s truck-donation program across the country, starting this year.
My take
I congratulate Purolator on creating its truck donation program. It’s a natural. Putrolator will soon begin ‘retiring’ whole fleets of older delivery vans as part of its (C)$1 billion fleet electrification program. What better way to give the older vehicles new life than to get them rolling for a good cause?
