“Bad things DO happen to good people…” And that’s just about the best way to describe Guy Fieri’s recent fall and the ensuing surgery. He’s forging ahead with production of his new series using, ‘creative filming techniques’…

Fieri says he got one foot caught descending a flight of stairs on the set and his other foot slipped out from under him. And he ended up at the bottom. He’ll spend the next 8 weeks in a wheelchair while his torn quad heals. Then there will be an undetermined period of rehab when he strengthens the injured leg and learns to walk on it again.
Production of his new series, Flavourtown 2.0, will continue. But Fieri will probably never be seen on TV in his wheelchair. He’s slated to be ‘shot with chest-up framing’ and during discussions on a couch.
A family affair
Fieri has called on his sons, Hunter and Rider, and his nephew, Jules, to perform the more athletic scenes in upcoming episodes of the series.
“My son, Ryder, texted me from school and he said, ‘Well, I guess all the training you’ve given me and all the cooking I’ve been doing while I was at school, it was going to be my time to shine,’” Fieri recounted. “And I said, ‘I am so happy you’re asking me about this versus me telling you, you have to do it.”
No damage to his sense of humour, despite the stress he must be under following the accident!
My take
Fieri first burst on the Food Network scene as a young, energetic chef with some wild ideas and banter straight off the street. His outrageous sense of humour has often verged on the ‘improper’. But he is now generally considered to be a nice guy playing an extreme version of himself on the screen.
His immortal Diners, Drive-ins and Dives is the highest-rated Food Network series ever.
But, believe it or not, Guy is now 57 years old. His accident may be the cosmos’ way of telling him to slow down…
