Grubhub Fêtes New Moms With First Post-Partum Repasts

We’ve endured so many negative stories over the past few months about Food Delivery Services, it’s refreshing to be able to report a happy one. Grubhub is offering new mothers a major discount on their first post-partum repast…

Real new moms react to Grub Hub ‘Special Delivery’…

You’ve been waiting for months. Literally. Waiting for your first ‘regular’ meal following delivery of your new baby. It’s been Hell: no sushi, no under-cooked (rare) proteins, no soft cheeses. No sugary beverages, no caffeine, no alcohol. And those processed foods are sooo hard to avoid…

A ‘reprieved’ woman’s first meal

The exact opposite of a condemned man’s last meal? In a way.

If you’re going to breast feed, you’ll still have dietary prohibitions to follow. But nothing like what you’ve been putting up with. Who wouldn’t want to go a little crazy – indulge a few whims?

In fact, a post-partum ‘feast’ has become something of a tradition among younger moms. And recognising that, Grubhub has decided to support the cause…

‘Special Delivery’

Did you know that more babies are born in August than in any other month? When Grubhub found out, it created GrubhubSpecialDelivery.com.

Now through the end of the month, both new and expectant moms can visit the site any Wednesday at noon, EDT to claim a coupon good for $20 off their first post-delivery meal. The offer is good on orders through Grubhub of $20 or more, while supplies last.

Social media precursors

“We were so inspired by all the new moms sharing their post-delivery meals on social [media],” said Christopher Krautler, Director of Grubhub Consumer Communications. “The anticipation, excitement, and intense cravings are unmistakable.” And, if you’ve had ’em – undeniable.

Doctors say new mom’s systems exude a special cocktail of hormones post-delivery,l that encourage them to co0ncentrate on their babies. And do the ‘mothering’ thing to the exclusion of all other mo-tivations. But those ‘mones don’t do anything to attenuate food cravings!

My take

Kudos to Grubhub for taking the initiative. The ‘Special Delivery’ promo ranks, for me, as one of the most creative public relations stunts we’ve seen from any player on the foodservice sphere for a long time.

I hope the ‘limited supply’ the Hub hints at isn’t SO limited that a lot of new moms visiting the cou-pon site are turned away. This promo is going to generate a tsunami of demand!
