Subway has new lawsuit on its hands… Or, fins

A new lawsuit contends that Subway’s Tuna Salad Sandwich Filling is not made from real Tuna. Reminds one uncomfortably of a big Canadian lawsuit claiming that the chain’s Chicken Sammy ingredients were not made with real Chicken. That was a few years back. The new suit says samples of Subway’s ‘Tuna’ were taken from several California locations and, after testing, were found to contain no Tuna – or any kind of fish, for that matter. So into the courts we go, again. We’ll keep you posted…

Popeye’s discontinues Cajun Rice and Green Beans

Hardcore fans were aghast to learn this past week that Popeye’s – the Louisiana Fried Chicken chain – was phasing out Cajun Rice and Green Beans from its permanent menu. It’s seen as part of an industry-wide push to streamline menus and cut costs making chains more competitive. Taco Bell last year re3moved Potato products from their permanent menu, but brought them back after a flood of negative comments from fans. We’ll see what Popeye’s does.

Pizza Hut rolls out Detroit-Style Pizza

Actually, they aren’t literally ‘rolling it out’. Detroit-Style Pizza is known for its square-shape, its richly caramelized crust edges, and its unique cup-shaped Pepperoni. Now, it’s available at participating Pizza Hut locations for a limited time. Word has it that testing kitchen types at The Hut went through some 500 versions before proclaiming the look, flavour and overall appeal of the new Pie legit.

Snickers Peanut Brownie Ice Cream Bar cued up

In a move designed to prime your local supermarket freezer compartment for summer, Snickers Peanut Brownie Ice Cream bars are being readied to début in March. In a cunningly-executed effort to make the new frozen confection mimic its conventional Candy Bar cousin, the new bars feature feature brownie-flavored ice cream combined with chewy brownie bits, topped with a layer of caramel and peanuts, and covered with a coat of milk chocolate. Simply decadent.

Coke with Coffee gives you a boost

Cocoa Cola with Coffee comes in those tall, slim cans that telegraph ‘Energy Drink’ to consumers. And that’s just what it is. The new beverage line comprises: Regular Coca-Cola with Coffee in Dark Blend, Caramel and Vanilla. Coca Cola with Coffee Zero Sugar will be available in both Dark Blend and Vanilla. The Coke/Coffee blends contain about 69 mg of extra coffee – which just about doubles their caffeine content over plain. Coke with Coffee is just one of several coffee or soft drink products being offered this season, by manufacturers who are aware many of are loping around like semi-comatose slugs, thanks to the weather and the COVID-19 lock down.

‘Pink Candy’ Kraft Dinner for Valentines?

“Valentine’s Day may be the cheesiest day of the year”, says the news release from Kraft/Heinz Canada, “and, as Canada’s favorite cheesy dish, we wanted to join in the fun.” So they dressed up KD in pink with candy flavours and made it the epicentre of a new contest. Share your best Valentine’s Day pickup line or ‘confess your love’ with a poem or social media post to win a box. On now until February 14, 2021. Visit the contest Web page for details.

And that’s the skinny…

… On what’s going to make some of us a little fatter over the days and weeks to come. See you back here in 7 for the next edition of Fast Food Week…
