Fast Food Week: Industry News Roundup

We thought we’d seen and heard all the special commercials by the Fast Food chains to mark Father’s Day day when a leading Wing slinger posted something very special on You-Tube this week. But that’s nothing compared to another Chicken purveyor’s impending ‘space shot’…

Buffalo Wild Wings nails Father’s Day Feelings

Buffalo Wild Wings may have set the standard for Father’s Day Fast Food commercials with their current effort (view above). The commercial has no dialogue. I guess it speaks for itself. The ‘caption’ to the spot, posted on YouTube by Buffalo Wild Wings, is simple: “The love of sports is something that’s shared. Here’s to those who pass it on.”

New record set for World’s Longest Pizza

Pizza enthusiasts reportedly flew in from around the globe last week to poll their efforts to break the record for the World’s Longest Pizza. They gathered at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, and set up an assembly line round the outer border of the track. In the end, they produced a Pizza that was 6,331 feet long – more than a mile – and contained 17,756 lbs. / 8,071 kg of dough, over 5,000 lbs. / 2,273 kg of sauce and 3,900 lbs. / 1,773 kg of cheese.

Burger King launches South Korea Burger

BK is going ultra-local in South Korea this summer with two new seafood-based ‘Burgers’. The first, The Tong Shrimp Crab Burger, is a fried Crab Cake topped with Garlic Shrimp, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions, and Old Bay-flavored Tartar Sauce. The other one, called the Red Crab Whopper, features the same exact ingredients as a Whopper on top of a fried Crab Cake and the Old Bay Tartar Sauce. Only in South Korea, and only for the summer. Why can’t we have this in North America? I’d pay a premium price…

KFC literally launches Zinger on a new promotional flight

It all started with the appearance of Rob Lowe as the ‘Space Colonel’ ion a KFC commercial a while ago, Now, the Chicken slinger is sending its Zinger sandwich into the stratosphere on a balloon. You can follow its journey on a special website which is currently up, but idling, waiting for something to happen. There will be onboard cameras… And there is a countdown clock on the site. Why? We’re not sure…

Skittles UK went ALL WHITE to celebrate diversity

No, really. They wanted to make a mark in the market during Pride month, so they launched all-white Skittles. What were they thinking? Well, their logic had to do with not wanting their ‘rainbow’ marketing campaign to to compete with, or seem to appropriate, the Pride rainbow.

“You see, during Pride only one rainbow deserves to be the center of attention, so Skittles have given theirs up,” the promo video explained.

Alas, the public largely looked upon the ALL WHITE campaign as a slap in the face to diversity. “You’re painting everybody white!” one knee-jerk Joe tweeted. Shallow vision, shallow thinking. All too redolent of the millennial mentality.

Waco, TX, 911 actually got “The McNugget Call’

A 911 operator in Waco (pronounced WAY-co, not WHACK-o). TX. actually got a call from a women who complained that her McNuggets were taking too long to cook. Really. The Police and 911 officials in Waco want everyone to know that this is not a valid reason to call 911.

The unidentified woman got so riled up waiting or her Nuggets that she caused a scene and the staff the police to remove her. She retaliated by calling 911 to complain about the staff.

Waco Police tweeted the following:

Yes it happens!! We actually had the chicken nugget call last night! Officers called to a restaurant drive-thru because a customer was mad her nuggets didn’t get cooked quick enough and why she couldn’t get them for free. Yes we went on this call. No…she did not get them for free. Yes we actually tied up two officers on this call.

That’s it for this week…
