Much hay was made online and in the mainstream media over last week’s launch of a new ‘premium’ chicken sandwich by Chick-Fil-A. Fans have praised the bun-based menu item, but slammed the chain for its price…

The new Maple Pepper Bacon Chicken Sandwich was an instant hit with fans for its ingredients. But some have expressed outrage over its price.
A sumptuous bite
The MPBS is officially described as, “A lemon-herb marinated boneless breast of chicken, grilled for a tender and juicy backyard-smoky taste, served on a toasted maple flavored brioche bun with Pepper Jack cheese, green leaf lettuce, bacon tossed in brown sugar and black pepper blend, and sweet and spicy pickles.”
It’s a follow-up to last year’s luxe Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich. Until recently, additions to the CFA menu have been few and far between.
Price unacceptable
A new protest thread has popped up on Reddit titled ‘Good but not $9.31 good…’
“When I started working at CFA in 2020 the price of a normal chicken sandwich was around $3.70 and the price of a grilled club was around $5.50. In 4-ish years, the food almost doubled in price,” the original poster wrote.
Another early poster commended that CFA prices appear to have doubled recently.
Fans weigh in
“$10 for a single sandwich is unreasonable. These companies are just doing whatever the hell they want,” wrote one poster.
“CFA prices have gotten ridiculous… I definitely don’t go nearly as often as I used to,” another noted.
“Yeah, it’s higher but everything is high,” a third commenter pointed out, as cooler heads began to weigh in…
My take
Chick-Fil-A has been more or less immune from complaints that ‘Fast Food prices are too high’. Until now.
But, as one protest thread poster pointed out, ‘times are changing’. And even Fast Food sphere institutions like CFA are being forced to change with the times.
