WEATHER CRISIS ‘CROWNS’: Snowfall Totals Record 90+ CM

The unprecedented winter storm event we experienced across Southern Ontario and the US North-east during the past 7 days has subsided… Leaving behind record snowfalls in many communities. And it’s back to business as usual for us…

As I write this, there is no further significant precipitation forecast for my town – Ottawa, Canada’s Capital – for the week to come. And that’s good news. Because parts of the affected area are still digging out, and may not have their snow disposal and premises access situations fully resolved for several more days.

‘Running out of space’

One large commercial and residential snow clearing service in the south end of Ottawa sent its clients an e-mail advising, saying it’s literally running out of space to put all the snow:

“[T]here is a huge amount of snow on the lawn areas, with very tall snow banks. We are finding it very challenging to blow snow to [the usual] deposit areas. We are trying to use the space between the houses near the porch, however the snow sometime ends up on the porch itself as it’s not always easy to aim, so kindly accept our apologies if you see some snow on the porch or entrance. You may also see [a] small amount of snow is sliding back onto laneways after hitting the top of snow banks…”

That’s a first!

Official tally

By the time an official ‘end’ was proclaimed to the ‘snow emergency’, the official tally was 90+ cm / 36+ in. But many residents and businesses, especially in the the south and west ends of Ottawa, reported significantly more. And don’t even get them started on the drifting caused by high winds over the past three days!

Otherwise…

It’s back to business as usual for us here at the Fab Food Blog, after several days of sketchy power, phone, internet and cable services.

Thanks for your patience!
