Fast Food Week: Quick Service Resto And Snacks News!

Earlier this week, we told you about Wing Stop’s new Thighs offering and Trader Joe’s new Porkless Pork Rinds. But those are just the cherries on the top of this week’s Fast Food news rundown. Today, we’re going to pick up the slack on new burgers and eat-on-the-go treats…

Taco Bell brings back Tripe Double Crunch Wrap…

I was never any good at match. But I do know what the Bell’s Triple Double Crunch Wrap is – and it’s coming back as the Grande Crunch Wrap. I guess the name was getting a bit to long for easy handling. It’s basically a Crunchwrap Supreme with an extra layer of signature ground beef: The familiar toppings include lettuce, nacho cheese, tomatoes and sour cream. There’s also a scattering of crunchy Tostada Shell. It’s all wrapped up in a hexagonally-folded Flour Tortilla and given a lick of the grill.

… Tests a plant-based Naked Chicken Chalupa

The bell is currently conducting a very limited test of a new plant-based Naked Chicken Chalupa. It’s the shell; that’s plant-based, made from a pea-protein formula. The shell, once breaded and crisped up in the fryer, is filled with lettuce, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and a tangy avocado ranch sauce. It’s only being tested at one California location right now, but we’ll let you now if it’s coming to a Taco Bell nearer you…

Wendy’s Tests new Plant-based Burger

Wendy’s is heading off in a different direction than most other big Burger Game players, testing a new black bean-based veggie burger. It starts with a new spicy black bean patty laced with a secret spice blend, chipotle jalapeños, pepper jack cheese and a spicy chipotle sauce. The Spicy Black Bean Burger is currently being offered at select locations in Columbus, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Jacksonville, Florida. I’ll be interested to see whether the vegetarians and vegans in the audience giver it their stamp of approval.

Kraft Heinz ushers out new Omelet Rounds

Thew mega-food maker is adding four new Omelet Rounds to its ‘Just Crack an Egg’ line. They’re All American; YThree Meat; CLassic; and Broccoli Cheddar. All feature Cheddar Cheese and cage-free eggs with different selections of additions. Omelet Rounds are available now at all the usual outlets, in the refrigerated aisle.

Trader Joe’s adds Dill Pickle Mustard

Sounds odd at first hearing, but after considering the proposition further, I think it may turn out to be a convivial combo. It’s a new addition to Joe’s summer lineup and is designed to complement grilled foods. It’s meant to be a condiment, but I think it would also be great as a rub or addition for all kinds of summer umami-heavy foods.

M&Ms showcases pretzels

M&Ms has revealed it will roll out a new flavour of their signature candy later this year. It’s winter-themed M&M’s White Chocolate Pretzel Snowballs. It consists of a white chocolate shell with a crispy pretzel centre. The new treat is part of M&M’s year-end holiday lineup.

Pringles intos Scorchin’ Sour Cream & Onion

The super-spicy bandwagon rumbles on, across the snack landscape, with a new flavour from Pringles: Scorchin’ Sour Cream & Onion (see photo, top of page). It’s the latest addition to their spicy line and – with a Cool Ranch or plain Sour Cream dip close at hand, sounds like a great bet for summer scarfing.

Mountain Dew launches ‘cake in a can’

The Dew is at it again – chilling up a new flavour: Cake Smash. The only down side is, it is made with artificial cake flavour. So I don’t know how it might taste. I really want to know what the words ‘DO OVER’ around the neck of the can refer to…

Klondike adds a Strawberry Shake

Klondike -the Ice Cream Bar people – are adding a new flavour to their recently débuted Shake-in-a-pouch line.  It’s Sit Back and Strawberry. It’s in the freezer compartment  at selected retailers for the summer -until further notice.
