McDonald’s China Rolls out Meatball Burger

Of all the markets in which to sell a Meatball Burger… McDonald’s China has rolled out just that, as a new menu item across its Chinese chain. The Big Meatball Burger consists of a portion of several meatballs served with a tomato meat sauce, dressed with lettuce, mayonnaise and a slice of cheese, and served on a sesame seed bun (of course). For a limited time only.

McDonald’s Japan offers OREO Cheesecake

It starts with an OREO Crumb Crust stuffed with a lemon-flavoured cream cheese filling. There’s a layer of OREO Crumbs between two layers of the filling, actually, and a thick OREO Crumb topping. For a limited time starting March 24.

My question, re.- both of the Asian market treats above is, as usual: How come they get the latest good stuff first?

Tim Hortons débuts Fresh Cracked Eggs

A few other chains have done it, but Tim’s surprises us by doing it before a lot of the others. Some commentators allege a dig at McDonalds who have been touting Fresh-Cracked Eggs for months… We speak of switching from pre-cracked, pre-cooked Egg Patties to Fresh Cracked Eggs for their breakfast sandwich menu items. Look for them in Tim’s, for Rewards members only this pass, for a limited time. Let’s hope they’re back on the menu to stay soon!

Taco Bell tests new Chicken Enchilada Grilled Cheese Burrito…

The new hybrid roll-up consists of marinated white-meat chicken, seasoned rice, three-cheese blend, crunchy red corn tortilla strips, enchilada sauce, and sour cream, wrapped in a flour tortilla and topped with a layer of grilled cheese. They haven’t had a roll-up thingie like this on their menu since they cancelled the Smothered Burrito.

… Adds two amped-up potato faves

The Bell has been sneaking new menu items onto its bill of fare lately, after streamlining its menu – ditching Potato dishes –  early last  year. Most recent are a Spicy Potato Soft Taco (a flour tortilla filled with potatoes, chipotle sauce, lettuce, and shredded cheddar cheese), and Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes featuring crispy-fried potatoes topped with nacho cheese sauce and sour cream. Fans of The Bell’s Potato menu items, who were enraged by the deletions last year, should be delighted again by this new development.

Heinz releases three new hybrid Sauces

They must have  scored big with two previous test releases of hybrid Sauces/Dressings released last year and the year before here in Canada, since Heinz is now testing three more: new Tarchup, Hanch and Wasabioli condiments for summer. Tarchup is a blend of Tartar Sauce and Katchup, Wasabioli is a blend of Wasabi and classic Garlic Aioli, and Hanch, a blend of Ranch Dressing and Hot Sauce. U.S. readers will also be familiar with Heinz’s Honeyracha, Kranch, Mayochup, Mayomust, and Mayoracha sauce mashups.
