Fast Food Week: Quick Service Resto And Snacks News!

Many old faves coming back for a limited time (again), and some new permanent menu items announced this week. ‘Plant-Powered products strike a jaunty profile while Red Bull adds a rare new roster item, and OREOs kicks off what looks like another busy year with two new fancy flavours…

Rippin' Chicken Popeye's - © Popeye's ChickenRippin’ Chicken is back at Popeye’s: Part of a new $6 Box special…

Popeye’s brings back Rippin’ Chicken

Remember Popeye’s market test of what they called Rippin’ Chicken? Chicken Tender-like strips left joined at one end that looked like a breaded, misshapen human hand? The idea was that you could rip ’em off one at a time when you were ready to ’em. They’re being offered in a new $6 Box deal that includes: one Rip’n Chicken fried chicken filet (avg. 6 fingers), two sides, a biscuit, and dipping sauce. Drink not included, but add a small beverage for a buck.

‘Plant-Powered’ Ranch Dressing coming to Hidden Valley

Hidden Valley – the most popular Ranch Dressing by sales – is also one of the most popular Chip Dips in North America. But until now, it was forbidden to those with Lactose intolerance or allergy. Now, the traditional dairy components of Ranch – Eggs and Buttermilk – are being replaced with Spy Protein products in Hidden Valley Ranch so everyone can get in on the fun. Coming this April at the usual sources across the continent.

Taco Bell rings in Plant-based options…

After prolonged deep thought and lots of market testing, Taco Bell has announced it will be partnering with Beyond Foods to offer ‘Plant-based protein’ products on their permanent menu. No word yet of what their first ‘Plant-based Meat’ products will be designed to emulate, but it’s finally coming, for sure, in a test-marketing program across the U.S., some time this year.

… Brings back Potatoes!

The Bell is also bringing back Potatoes starting March 11. Spuds were pulled from the ingredient list when The Bell announced it was streamlining its menu for the duration of the pandemic crisis, and fans rared their disapproval. Roar no more – unless it’s with joy!

Krispy Kreme adds new Mini Donuts

Just to mix things up a bit and make life a little more interesting, Krispy Kreme is offering new Mini Donuts for a limited time, in a collection designed to emulate your fave desserts: a Mini Strawberry Cheesecake Donut; a Mini Birthday Cake Donut; a Mini Lemon Bar Donut; and a Mini Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Donut. Available in 4- or 16-count boxes.

OREOs launches 2 new permanent flavours

The guys who added 32 new flavours (most for a limited time) to their rosters last year are adding two more – Oreo Chocolate Hazelnut sandwich cookies and Oreo Java Chip sandwich cookies. It’s the stuff in the middle that’s changing, not the iconic Chocolate Wafers on the outside.

Red Bull Zero: No Sugar, all the Caffeine

Red Bull Zero is now available across Canada. It offers zero sugar and still contains all the caffeine you want in an energy drink. The additional lift the sugar in the old formula used to provide is up to the drinker to make up for.

And that’s the skinny…

… On all the stuff that’s going to making us all a little fatter over the next little while. See you back here in 7 for the next edition of Fast Food Week!
