Fast Food Week: Quick Service Resto And Snacks News!

The major players in the Fast Food sector want you to know that summer is fast approaching, and they have a host of new stuff (and returning favourites) to offer to celebrate the cautious re-opening of their restos for dine-in service. The question is, are you ready to venture out and risk it?

Arby’s incomparable Pecan Chicken Salad is back

The popular Pecan Chicken Salad Sandwich Salad Sandwich is back at Arby’s for summer. This rich, satisfying flavour combo starts with Honey Wheat Bread lined wit Leafy Lettuce and stuffed with chunks of Grilled Chicken; Pecans; diced Red Apples; Celery; and Red Grapes in a Mayo base. For a limited time, while supplies last.

Sonic slings new Chicken Sandwiches

To be precise, they’re offering new Chicken Slingers (half way between regular Chicken Sammys and Sliders in size) at a rock-bottom $2.49 each for a limited time. The The Spicy Chicken Slinger and Classic Chicken Slinger both start with a crispy-fried Chicken Filet on a toasted Brioche Bun and add Pickles. On the Spicy version, you get Spicy Rand Sauce; on the Classic, you get plain Mayo. It’s the latest Chicken Sandwich to appear on the Fast Food horizon using the Popeye’s ‘recipe’ that had crowds lining up around the block last summer. Even KFC has followed the pack (after losing the chance to lead) on this popular Sammy formula.

Popeye’s launches $10 Sampler

Here’s a good way to get to know Popeye’s, if you haven’t had the pleasure before now. The $10 Sampler includes: 2 pieces of Fried Chicken (mixed); 2 Chicken Tenders; 8 pieces of Fried Butterfly Shrimp; 2 Biscuits; and 2 Regular Sides. The new deal is the latest in a series that has previously included: the $10 Bigger Box Deal and the $10 Tenders Box. Like its forebears, the new Sampler is a limited-time special.

Denny’s offers BOGO ‘Grad Slams’

They’re just like Denny’s Grand Slams, but renamed in honour of the Class of 2020, which missed its diploma ceremonies and Proms this year due to the pandemic lock down. The Grad Slam includes: s Buttermilk Pancakes, 2 Eggs(cooked however you like), 2 Bacon strips, and 2 Breakfast Sausage links. The trick is, you have to order two Grad Slams through Dennys.com or the mobile app, and enter the promo code ‘GRANDSLAM at checkout.

Wendy’s goes BOGO for breakfast…

For a limited time, you can buy one Wendy’s breakfast menu item and get a second for just $1 more. Mix and match from among: the Breakfast Baconator; the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit; and the Sausage, Egg & Swiss Croissant; and Frosty-ccino. At participating locations.

… Serves up a new Summer Salad

Wendy’s is also débuting a new Strawberry Chicken Salad (see photo, top of page). It’s an entrée Salad starting with Romaine Lettuce and Spring Mix Greens, topped with diced Grilled Chicken Breast, a 3-Cheese Blend (Parmesan, Asiago, and Fontina), Applewood-Smoked Bacon, and Strawberries. There’s a Champagne Vinaigrette and some Candied Almonds on the side, too. Wendy’s entrée salads have always been good, and good value. This one appears to be no exception…

Little Caesar’s stuffs Crazy Bread

LC’s is now serving up what it calls Stuffed Crazy Bread. Actually, it looks more like a McDonald’s dessert Pie or a Hot Pocket, with thinly rolled Crazy Bread Doough wrapped in an oblong shape around some Mozzarella and crimped shut before baking. The handy finger-food teats are finished with  brush of Garlic-Butter Sauce and a sprinkle of ground Parmesan. You get three per order accompanied by Crazy Sauce for Dipping. I ask: What not Marinara instead or as well?

Jif packs Peanut Punch in Squeezable Pouch

Jif – one of the most iconic brands in North America – claims it has made what nit calls the ‘latest breakthrough innovation in Peanut butter’: PB in Pouch. Looks like a big, fat Toothpaste Tube to me, but what do I know? I’m not a Jif product developer, much less a Bread Spread marketing guru. Anyway, it’s officially called ‘Jif Squeeze Creamy Peanut Butter’; the same Smooth Jif that comes in the familiar Jar, and it’s touted being more parent-friendly for kids to use. That means the kids are less likely to get the PB all over place when making their pwn sandwiches or topping their own breakfast toast. Jif also notes, it saves you cleaning an extra utensil. Okay, well… Some of the time, anyway.

And that’s the skinny…

… On what’s destined to make some of us fatter as restaurants cautiously re=open for din-in service during the beginning of the end of the COVI-19 lock down. See you back here in 7 for another edition of Fast Food Week!
