This week’s Fast Food News leans heavily in the direction of summer treats from Arby’s, Taco Bell, OREOs, Skittles and Chips Ahoy! On the hot side, we have word of a new Pepperoni Cheeser Cheeser ‘almost Artisan’ Pie, and new Uncrustables Taco Bites to help beat the COVID-19 lock down blues…

any Caesar’s Pie has yet come to ‘Artisan’ status.
Little Caesar launches the Pepperoni Cheeser Cheeser
The big Pizza chain with the low profile, Little Caesar’s, has made a rare menu addition – the first in some time. It’s the Pepperoni Cheezer Cheezer and features Pepperoni, Fresh Mozzarella, and Sweet Basil on a thick Asiago-Parmesan crust. The rim of the Crust is dressed with Asiago and Parmesan shreds for extra flavour and crispness. The Pepperoni Cheeser Cheeser is as close as any Little Caesar’s Pie has ever gotten to Artisan status and it’s priced like a regular Caesar’s concoction. It’s around for a limited time, probably through the summer.
Uncrustables introduces Taco Bites
The guys who put familiar fillings in non-pastry pockets have added Taco Bites to their lineup. Uncrustables’ new treat consists of a mixture of ‘Beef Crumble’, Cheese, Salsa, and Taco Seasoning in a Bread pocket. It’s reported to be about the size of a White Castle Slider and microwaves from frozen in just 40 seconds. A perfect crave-killer for the COVID-19 locked-down heat-and-eat fan.
Arby’s brings back its Orange Cream Shake
The Orange Cream Shake is basically an old-fashioned Creamsicle Ice Cream Bar in a glass, blending the regular Vanilla Shake with Orange Cream Syrup and topping it off with Whipped Cream. The popular confection is around for a limited time only, of course, but if Arby’s previous plans for the Shake are any indication, it will be around at least through September.
Taco Bell adds Wild Strawberry Candy Freeze
The Bell has added a Wild Strawberry Candy Freeze to its summer ‘Slush’ beverage line. The Slush portion is advertised as tasting like ‘real wild strawberries’ and features Candy ‘seeds’ like the ones in the Watermelon Freeze. It’s only May and Summer doesn’t officially start until June, but I guess we could all use an early treat.
Chips Ahoy! teams up with Sour Patch…
No, it’s not a Cookie-flavoured Sour Patch Candy; it’s a Sour Patch-infused Cookie. I’d have said the combo wouldn’t appeal to many potential consumers, but it guess it’s just a logical extension of the current and continuing fascination with the Sour Patch Kids Candies and the string of crossovers it’s spawned. Get ’em wherever Chips Ahoy! products are sold.
… And so does Skittles
Skittles fans will (may?) be interested to know that the iconic Candy has partnered with the fad-driven Sour Patch franchise to offer Sour Patch Skittles Ice Cream Bars for a limited time. A little oasis of of cold, creamy, sweet and sour flavour. Welcome to summer.
For the lazy COVID-19 baker: Oreo Desert
It’s a no-bake Dessert featuring OREO Cookie Chunks in a creamy filling on an OREO Cookie Crust. Just add Butter and Milk, mix it up, refrigerate, and cut in Bars. If you love Instant Pudding (and all the things you can make with it), and miss your Mom’s no-bake Chocolate Cream Pie, make an effort to find an (at this writing) hard-to-find OREO No-Bake Dessert Kit. Last I heard, they were available at selected Walmarts. but not online. Time to do a little creative Googling?
