Fast Food Week: Quick Service Resto And Snacks News…

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is very evident in this week’s Fast Food news. Nevertheless, most of the big players have weighed in with new specials and new product announcements. And, though celebrations are expected to be dialed back, this is Pie / Pi Day 2020!

This is Pie / Pi Day!

March 14 (3/14) is always international Pi / Day! While the COVID-19 crisis has dampened party plans across the globe, you can still celebrate – even if you’re in self-isolation – with a special Pizza or a slice of your fave dessert Pie today. Check out your go-to delivery joints for Pie / Pi Day specials!

In case you missed yesterday’s post…

McDonald’s has rolled out it’s biggest Mac ever – the Double Mac – which incorporates 4 Big Mac Patties. Similar Sandwiches have been featured in overseas markets, and it seems McD’s finally realized it hadn’t offered one in North America yet. For a limited time only, of course.

7-Eleven gets on the Fried Chicken Bandwagon

7-Eleven convenience stores, which have recently been upgrading and expanding their take-away food inventories, are introducing a Fried Chicken Sandwich – with the slogan ‘Chicken Worth Crossing the Road For’. Other Chicken delicacies are apparently in the works. Alas, the new Sammy is only available at a special ‘Raise The Roost’ stand at 7-Eleven’s Manhattan headquarters – for now.

Burger King has a limited time Nugget deal

For a limited time, you can get an 8-piece order of Burger King’s Chicken Nuggets for just $1 at participating BK outlets. A little happy thing to help allay the overarching gloom brought on by the COVID-19 crisis. And, as we told you last week in this space, BK is also test marketing a new Cheese-stuffed Chicken Nugget. Something for the vast majority of us who don’t live in the test zones to look forward to!

Taco Bell brings back the Tripleupa…

Very like the Bell’s Taco in its fillings, the Triplupa is actually three pull-apart Chalupa style Shells joined together conga-line style, with three different ‘flavours’: Cheesy, Chipotle and Cheesy Chipotle. All feature the Bell’s signature Seasoned Beef, Lettuce, Tomatoes and Cheese. For a limited time only, as before.

… Launches Breakfast Burritos

The Bell has three new Breakfast Burritos on the menu: the Cheesy Toasted Breakfast Burrito, the Hash Brown Toasted Breakfast Burrito and the Grande Toasted Breakfast Burrito. They look pretty substantial (in size) and appear to be stuffed with lots of fillings. Like the regular Breakfast Burritos the Bell offered in the past, we assume these new toasty delights will be here for a limited time only…

Starbucks adds Breakfast Burritos, too

The premium Coffee and snacks shop has added two new Breakfast Burritos to their menu: a Bacon, Sausage and Egg Wrap (Bacon, Sausage, Scrambled Egg, Cheddar Cheese and Potatoes), and a Southwest Veggie Wrap (Eggs, Black Beans, Potatoes, Pico de Gallo, Jalapeño Cream Cheese and Cotija Cheese). Nice nod to the vegetarians among their fans, there.

Pizza Hut brings back the Big Dipper

The Big Dipper rectangular Pepperoni Pizza is back for a limited time at participating Pizza Huts. Remember the huge 24 in. / 60 cm Pizza with almost two cups (total) of dipping Sauce? You can order it topped with just Cheese, Cheese and Pepperoni, or half Cheese / half Cheese and Pepperoni. Great for sharing; easy to overindulge.

Sonic rolls out new Jr. Double Stack Cheeseburger

Sonic’s new Jr. Double Stack Cheeseburger looks (whether intentionally or not) very similar to a Big Mac: 2 Quarter-Pound Patties, Dill Pickle Coins, Grilled Onions, Mayo and Mustard on a Brioche-style Bun. Quite a mouthful, available for a limited time only.

Chipotle has free delivery through end of March

The reborn Tex-Mex chain is offering free delivery through the end of this month. It’s a gesture toward folks in self-isolation or under quarantine for COVID-19. Special delivery procedures are in effect and Chipotle has also added what it calls ‘ Tamper Evident’ seals on its delivery packaging. Just order a minimum of $10 worth of their menu items through Chipotle.com or the Chipotle app to qualify for free delivery.

Orange Vanilla Coke is here for a limited time

Not long ago, we announced that Coca Cola was pumping Cherry Vanilla Coke in cans for a limited time – in recognition of a Soda Fountain hack fans have been ordering for decades. Now they’re offering Orange Vanilla Coke in regular (Sugar sweetened) and Diet, for a limited time. Those who’ve tasted it say it reminds one of an Orange Creamcicle. Talk about a blast from the past!

And that’s the skinny..

… On what’s likely to make some of us a little fatter, even as we endure the privations of the COVID-19 crisis and the social pressures it places upon us. Nevertheless, we’ll see you all back here in 7 for another edition of Fast Food Week!
