Fast Food Week: Quick Service Restaurant and Snacks News!

Another week, another bumper edition of Fast Food Week! This time, there’s a soft drink that tastes like a candy, a candy bar that tastes like a cinnamon bun, a cereal that tastes like a shake, and a Pop Tart that tastes like a waffle. And a special Hallowe’en jerky that tastes like …the hottest thing you’ve ever tasted!

to roll out vegan Impossible Foods Chicken Nuggets.

“In 2019, we became the first quick-service restaurant to serve the award-winning, plant-based Impossible patty and offer the iconic Impossible Whopper,” Burger King North America Chief Marketing Officer Ellie Doty noted in a statement. The Impossible Whopper was reportedly a hit. If the force remains strong, the Nuggets may just rack one up in the chicken column for BK.

Taco Bell blasts out new Taco Melt nation-wide

The Bell débuted a new Cantina Crispy Melt Taco last year in a very limited market test. Looks like the test results were positive.

Now, the new menu item is joining the menu across the U.S. The Melt includes the Bell’s signature seasoned beef, sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, nacho cheese sauce, and a three-cheese blend.

Wendy’s crosses over to Cereal space

Wendy’s has lent its name to a new Kelloggs breakfast item: Wendy’s Frosty Chocolatey Cereal. The stuff is touted as a ‘multigrain cereal with marshmallows’ version of Wendy’s famous Chocolate Frosty shake. In addition, each limited edition box includes a voucher for a small Frosty or Frosty-ccino, redeemable with any Wendy’s app purchase.

Cheerios Goes Pumpkin Spice

It’s been weeks since Fast Food Week failed to include at least one notice about a limited-edition Pumpkin Spice special. Now, even Cheerios is appearing in a Pumpkin Spice variant this month.

FFW doesn’t usually include news about cereals, but we’ve made an exception this edition for The Wendy’s product and the Cheerios, because we think they’re equally qualified as cereals and snacks. Just right for munching while binge watching Homeland, like popcorn or corn chips.

Pop Tarts borrow Eggos Frosted Maple flavour

Kelloggs is also pumping out a limited time Pop Tart flavour, borrowed from Eggos Waffles. The confection is essentially a Pop Tart with an Eggo-yellow shell, a sweet maple filling, and a waffle-inspired icing design. It’s coming in December.

Snickers branches out to Cinnamon Buns

Well, the flavour, anyway. The new limited time Snickers variant is much like the traditional bar, but with a cinnamon bun flavoured nougat layer. Get ’em excl;usiovely at Walmart until the end of this month, in singles at the store and boxes of 24 at Walmart.com.

Jerky vendor goes Reaper for Hallowe’en

Country Archer Provisions is offering Death Reaper, a special (maybe even dangerous) hot pepper-infused jerky for the spooky season (see photo, top of page). The heat comes from the infamous Carolina Reaper pepper, one of the hottest in the world. The package, in appropriate red and black, is headed with a warning: “Open If You Dare!” It’s available only until the end of the month, from the Country Archer website.

Internationally Most-Hated List

A new survey maps the most-HATED fast food brands in almost every country in the world. The project, undertaken by Ravereviews.org, revealed that KFC is currently the most-hated Fast Food Brand, getting the thumbs down from 14 countries, while Wendy’s comes in second, most-hated in 11 countries. Most-Hated Fast Food was just one category of the overall survey, which also enumerated the most-hated Gaming Brands, Big Tech Brands, and Overall Brands by analysing more than a million tweets.

And that’s the skinny…

… On what’s going to be making some of us a little fatter over the coming days and weeks – at least until the end of the month, if the limited-time items are any indication. See you back here in 7 for the next edition of Fast Food Week!
