Labour Day comes and goes, and it’s back to intense competition among the Fast Food brands with big deals and new product announcements. Del Taco, Wendy’s, Wing Stop, Chipotle, Dominos and more are all playing…
Del Taco’s new Epic Tortas: Tex-Mex ‘subs’ w fresh new offering.
Del Taco launches Epic Tortas
The sample photos we’ve seen appear to show overstuffed 7 in. buns. That’s more than enough food to equal the full substance of footlongs from some other brands. Three variations are initially available: Carne Asada with Creamy Queso Blanco, Freshly Grilled Chicken BLT with house-made pico, and Crispy Chicken with fresh house-made guac. They’re bound to be new headliners.
Wing Stop adds Chicken Breast Sandwich
The wing guys – who have been putting a lot of work into modernizing their menu lately – are adding a classic Deep Fried Chicken Breast Sandwich across the U.S. The menu item was briefly test marketed last spring. But we knew it would show up as a permanent new main – because all the other chicken guys already have ’em.
Flavours include: Lemon Pepper, Hickory Smoked BBQ, Mild, Louisiana Rub, Hawaiian, Garlic Parmesan, Spicy Korean Q, Original Hot, Cajun, Mango Habañero, Atomic and Plain. Wing Stop has a big advantage rolling out their Chicken Sammy. They already had the tried and true sauces. Each sandwich is served on a toasted bun with crunchy pickles.
Wendy’s reprises Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger
The popular Cheeseburger is back for a limited time. It’s built on a quarter-pound beef patty, topped with cheese sauce. Add smoked bacon, smoky honey mustard, crispy-fried onions, crinkle-cut pickles, and a slice of muenster cheese all on a pretzel bun. Double- and triple-patty versions are also on offer. Go to town!
Chipotle adds Chicken al Pastor
One of the most underrated genuine, authentic Mexican dishes, Chicken al Pastor, is coming to Chipotle’s. A test marketing run involving almost 100 locations in the Denver and Indianapolis areas is about to launch.
The recipe sounds great: spicy adobo, achiote, morita peppers, pineapple, cilantro and fresh lime juice. Traditionally very hot and spicy, I’m betting Chipotle’s dials back the fire a bit to allow the greatest number of fans to enjoy it.
Domino’s Pizza offers 20% of all menu items
Domino’s must be feeling the competition really bad just now. They’re offering 20 percent of all regularly-priced menu items until October 31, 2022. That may sound lame next to their usual half-price and BOGO deals, but it’s actually a big deal. Almost 60 days of consistent savings on literally all the fan faves…
Papa Murphy’s brings back Triple Pep pies
Yes. the all-time fave pizza topping after cheese, Pepperoni, is back, on Murph’s Triple Pep pies. It’s an original crispy crust topped with original crust topped with red sauce, mozzarella, cheddar cheese, and three types of pepperoni: giant, mini cup, and regular pepperoni.
Get the special triple-threat treatment on large and family sized pies until October 16. There’s also a deal bundling a large TP with chocolate chip cookie dough and a 2-liter bottle of Pepsi. It’s about $20, depending on where you live.
Donato’s brings back Pepp 150 Pizzas
As you might expect, topped with 150 pieces of ‘crispy heritage’ pepperoni, for a limited time at all Donato’s locations. That’s 50 more slices than you normally get on the large D’s Pepperoni, for just a buck more.
Pumpkin Spice headlines Starbuck’s fall specials lineup
They’ve got a special Latté, a Cold Brew, an Oatmilk Macchiato, a Cheese Muffin, a Cake Pop and a Pumpkin Scone.
Available now through the season while supplies last. If Pumpkin Spice is your thing, put on your fall fling…
Jet Puffed Marsh Mallows unveils fall flavours
No big surprises here: Candy Corn and Pumpkin Spice. Here we go again with Pumpkin Spice overload season, otherwise known as Fall. The first big traditional day for these flavours, Hallowe’en, doesn’t even come for 8 weeks, yet. But food vendors are already plugging them. Guess I’ll be sick of them by Yuletide, again this year…
TRIX cereal now out as pop corn
TRIX flavoured popcorn is General Mills’ latest snack treat addition. They’re compact ‘small pop’ puffs glazed with colourful, fruity sweet stuff and TRIX cereal crumbs.
Another early Hallowe’en offering. They join Cocoa Puffs and Cinnamon Toast Crunch flavoured popcorns on the company’s extensive snack menu.
And that’s the skinny…
… On what’s going to be making some of us fatter through the Fall season. See you back here in 7 for the next edition of Fast Food Week!
