Fast Food Week: Quick Service Restaurant And Snacks News!

It’s Easter Weekend – and Passover, and Ramadan – and we don’t have another big holiday to celebrate until early July… So we’re back in the regular swing of things: the eternal rotation of limited-time offerings of stuff you wish they’d put on the permanent menu…

in person as it does in this official portrait!

Firehouse Subs reprises Spicy Cajun

The Spicy Cajun Chicken Sub features Cajun-seasoned grilled chicken breast, jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, onions, deli mustard, and house-made Cajun mayo. Ask for your choice of several Firehouse Hot Sauces on the side. It’s a limited-time offer.

BK brings back $5 Your Way Meal

The popular deal is back for a limited time at participating locations chainwide. You get a Double Whopper Jr., a small order of fries, a 4-piece order of chicken nuggets and a small fountain drink.

The Double Whopper Jr., contains about the same amount of meat (split into two smaller patties) as you get in a regular Whopper in one patty.

Checkers and Rally unveil a new Big Buford

The BB, C&R’s signature burger, is being updated with some premium toppings (see photo, top of page). The Bistro Buford brings you: 2 large beef patties, two bacon strips, Swiss cheese, Dijon mayo sauce, and ‘parmesan-dusted’ crispy onions on a toasted bun. It’s also available in a small combo with seasoned fried and a fountain drink.

Taco Bell lights fire under Steak Fries

The official moniker is Steak White Hot Ranch Fries – and the heat comes from Ghost Peppers. The fries are topped with marinated grilled steak and Nacho Cheese Sauce.

The crowning glory is Ghost Pepper Ranch Dressing. And you can get the plate wrapped up as a Burrito.

Eggos go ‘toasterless’

I say, “So what?” But Kellogg’s insists their Grab & Go Liege-Style Waffles, which don’t require a final bake in your toaster, are something new and exciting. They look to me to be regular Eggos, but Kellogg’s says you can thaw and eat ’em cold, right from the pack. Or give them the toaster treatment as usual, if you want. Initially available in Buttery Maple ans Strawberry flavours.

Nestlè Toll House goes big, comes home

… With new Toll House Stuffed Cookie Dough, which when baked produces the brand’s largest-ever cookies.

There are two flavours, at least to start: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough with Fudge Filling and Double Chocolate Cookie Dough with Salted Caramel Filling. Trouble is, cookie lovers, you’ll have to wait until July for it to début in supermarket freezer sections.

Panera charges up Lemonades

The Charged Lemonades are billed as energy drinks, boosted with a combination of caffeine, green coffee extract, and guarana extract. They come in three flavours (initially): Mango Yuzu Citrus, Fuji Apple Cranberry, and Strawberry Lemon Mint. Put a little zip in your summer!

Intl. Alert: McD’s stages Italo-Korean culture clash

That’s right. McDonald’s South Korea is offering a new Arrabiata Ricotta Chicken Burger – for a limited time, of course. It’s similar to another sandwich floated there back in 2016, but this time, it’s spicy.

You get a deep-fried crispy Chicken Filet topped with spicy arrabiata sauce, ricotta cheese, lettuce, mayo, onion and bacon, on a toasted sesame seed bun.

Intl. Alert: BK Japan slices Bacon Potato Pie

It looks like a regular McPie, in terms of its size and shape, and even its signature cardboard sleeve. But it’s not for dessert. It’s stuffed with savoury potatoes, bacon and onions. The capper is, it’s enrobed in a cream sauce, and would probably remind you of traditional western Scalloped Potatoes. I was not aware that the Japanese diet included potatoes and bacon…

Intl. Alert: BK Thailand gets social with Hashtag Burger

The Burger is described as a ‘flame-grilled Australian beef patty’ topped with American (processed) cheese, mayo, and smoky BBQ sauce.

The Hashtag Fries are – what else? – Waffle Fries, which really do resemble a hashtag in the right light. It’s a limited time offering, of course.

And that’s the skinny…

… On what’ll be making some of us a little fatter in the coming days and weeks. See you back here in 7 for the next edition of Fast Food Week!
