Summer time, and the livin’ is… High-Calorie. But that’s to be expected. Indulge in new seasonal sandwiches from McDonald’s, Burger King, Arby’s and Subway. And revel in the return of Beyond Orange Chicken at Panda Express…
Three new summer-themed subs from Subway…
The rundown…
The hottest summer Fast Food deals and events, for the hottest summer yet!
Mains
Subway launches three new subs
The new Subway Series includes three all-new sandwiches: Honey Mustard BBQ Chicken; Spicy Nacho Chicken; and Cheesy Garlic Steak. Can’t miss the summer BBQ theme, here. Spicy nacho and Garlic Steak both feature the chain’s new SubCrunch topping. All three include your choice of bread.
Arby’s offers $9.99 Burger Meal
Can there be such a thing as a $10 ‘Value Meal’? Arby’s is offering such a deal, without labelling it as such. Call it a top-end Burger combo.
And, to be fair, it comes in at an attractive price for what you get: A Deluxe Burger, Medium Fries and a Regular Shake. Compare with a total of $15 or more for the component menu items bought separ-ately, at regular prices…
KFC gets saucy with Crispy Chicken
KFC is following a relatively recent trend in the ongoing Chicken-on-a-Bun War, offering a new slate of ‘Saucy’ Chicken Sandwiches. Choose from: Honey Barbecue, Honey Sriracha and Korean BBQ. There’s also a companion deal offering 50 Percent Off the price of any of KFC’s Chicken Sandwiches when ordered online through the KFC app or website. At participating locations.
McDonald’s revisits Smoky…
The Smoky BLT Quarter Pounder with Cheese is back for a limited run at McD’s. It’s billed as, “a fresh-beef quarter-pounder, with two slices of American (Processed) cheese, two half-strips of applewood-smoked bacon, three slices of Roma tomato, shredded lettuce, and a smoky BLT sauce. The sauce is described as, “sweet and tangy, savory and garlicky,” with a, “lingering smokiness.”
Panda Express reprises Beyond Orange Chicken
It doesn’t matter who offers it, Orange Chicken is always a sell-out item on limited-time menus. And the plant-based chicken chunks from Beyond Meat are no exception.
The summer return of Beyond The Original Orange Chicken comes after more than 7,000 fans signed a petition demanding it. It’s rolling out within days at selected locations, just in time for National Orange Chicken Day, July 5.
Burger King wants to ‘light your fire’
BK has launched a new ‘Fiery’ menu designed to satisfy the spiciest taste. Headlining the new uber-spicy list, Fiery Nuggets and a Ghost Pepper Whopper. “With spice levels ranging from mild to wild, these menu additions make it easy for heat seekers to have it their way,” Burger King explained in a news release. There are also Fiery Mozzarella and Fiery Chicken Fries, A Fiery Chicken Sandwich, and a (mildly) Fiery Sprite and Strawberry beverage.
7-Eleven unveils new Taquitos
New Chicken Nuggets are actually just one element of a new summer food menu which also includes: a Breakfast Skillet Taquito; a Philly Cheesesteak Taquito; and a Personal Breakfast Pizza…
Plus special 7-Select Zero Sugar Juices and Sweet Tea… At participating 7-Eleven, Speedway, and Stripes stores US-wide.
Sides
Subway adds crunch, cheese…
Subway is adding two new toppings for its various menu items. SubKrunch is not a crouton, but neither is it crushed chips. It’s described as crispy topping ideal for use in sandwiches and wraps, or on top of salads. Then there’s the long-awaited Cheddar Cheese Sauce. We wonder why it took Subway so long to introduce this one!
Beverages
McDonald’s whips up Kit Kat McFlurry
McD’s is following up its attention-getting Grandma McFlurry with another new frozen treat. The Kit Kat Banana Split McFlurry (see photo, top of page) is described as being, “blended with real banana, strawberry clusters plus chocolatey, crunchy pieces of Kit Kat wafer bars in every bite.” At participating McD’s locations, while supplies last. If the machines are working.
Snacks
Subway and Doritos collab on BBQ
To be precise: New Doritos Sweet & Tangy BBQ chips, as a limited-time exclusive snack offering. I hate these exclusives. They always seem to be really good ideas which have been preempted from retail release to feature in promo campaigns by ‘partnering’ players. Just hole these intriguing-sounding corn chips are eventually released to the broader market!
Baskin-Robbins declares ‘Beach Day’
BR’s summer special Beach Day ice cream is back – as the July Flavour of the month. Available in pre-packed quarts, and as a new Beach Day Shake or Beach Day Sundae.
There’s also a coordinating summer-themed merch line at the Baskin-Robbins online store, while supplies last…
Van Leeuen’s churns out Hello Kitty Ice Cream
The prestige ice cream purveyor is marking the Kitty’s 50th birthday (as are other Fast Food makers) with a commemorative scoop. The special flavour launches on National Ice Cream Day, Sunday, July 21. The catch is, it’ll be available for that one day only. It’s described as, “white chocolate ice cream with swirls of raspberry jam, – homage to Hello Kitty’s iconic red bow – with chunks of truffle brownie.
Novelties
Fritos Twists it up for movie collab
The long-awaited sequel to the 1996 disaster movie Twister is due in theatres July 19. And Fritos is supporting the premiere with a special movie-themed big bag of its Twists snacks. The overarching ‘twist’ is that the special release combines Flamin’ Hot Twists and Flavor Twists Ranch versions in one bag.
The catch is, the special mixed bag will only be available to a very limited number of fans, via an online contest. (Checkout: @Fritos on Instagram.) But insiders say you can get the same taste sensation by combining Fritos Classic Ranch and Flamin’ Hot Corn Chips in the same bowl…
Hormel leverages SPAM’s Pacific heritage
The flavour fiddlers at Hormel Foods have been at it again. This time, they’ve come up with Korean BBQ flavour SPAM. It’s officially described as: “a unique blend of soy sauce, garlic, ginger, paprika, and sesame with a hint of spice from gochujang.” It’s available exclusively fro Walmart – for the time being, at least.;..
Buffalo Wild Wings features Joey Chestnut
The 16-time Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating champ is fronting BWW’s summer All You Can Eat wings deal. He kicked it off officially earlier this week, gobbling 200 wings in just over 37 minutes.
Brave new worlds are opening up for Joey since he was exiled by Major League Eating over a ‘conflicting’ sponsorship deal.
And that’s the skinny…
… On the stuffin’ stuff that will be making some of us somewhat more stuffed in the days and weeks to come. See you back here in 7 for the next overflowing edition of Fast Food Week!
