McNopoly is back – this time with a seasonal theme

McDonald’s popular Monopoly game is back for a limited time, this weekend through the end of the month, costumed in a Hallowe’en theme. ‘Trick, Treat, Win!’ offers the familiar peel-off cardboard tokens, some of which can be redeemed instantly for free food and drinks including Big Macs, breakfast sandwiches, fries, McCafé beverages, or McFlurrys, allowing you to keep track of your Monopoly Board electronically. This time around, the game can be integrated with your McDonald’s smart phone ordering app. Odds of winning are claimed to be one in four. There has, however, been some question as to how the winning tokens have been distributed, geographically, in the past.

Sonic dabbles in Footlong market

Subway has one, Arby’s has one, and other Sandwich shops have one. But the new, limited-time Sonic Footlong Philly Cheese Steak offers attractions and price that none of the competitors can match. Those who’ve seen it say the Sonic Cheese Steak gives you a lot more than the Subway version for considerably less cash. It’s just (US)$5, and that alone marks it as a limited-time promo item. Nobody could go on indefinitely selling footlong anythings at that price and not eventually go broke. The Sonic Footlong Cheese Steak comes in classic and Spicy versions.

Chicken joints blast out Chicken-Fried OREOs!

Popeye’s and Church’s Chicken (the latter often found attached to a Harvey’s location) are both selling Breaded, deep-fried OREO Cookies this fall. They’re thickly breaded, and the Church’s version sports a drizzle of Vanilla Icing on top. What more needs to be said?

OREOs débuting mini Candy Bars for Hallowee’en

The ‘Fun Size (bite-sized) Candy Bar has become a core staple of Hallowe’en goody bags across the western world, second only to Potato Chip ‘singles’ in popularity. We also know that OREO is getting into the candy Bar sector. So what better was to get word out about that than offering mini OREO Candy Bars for Hallowe’en? The Hallowe’en packets feature Chocolate Candy Bars, charming little confections stuffed with OREO Cream Filling blended with bits of OREO Chocolate Cookie wafer.

Starbuck’s may start delivering bevs via Uber Eats

The pioneer of Premium Coffee to go is reportedly testing delivery of its drinks via Uber Eats. It’s a relatively small-scale test in the Miami area, but could lead to broader service implementation. True, Starbuck’s already delivers in some places around the country, but these are apparently locally-initiated programs, not tests for a national rollout.

Cola Wars rage on…

In yet another attempt to raise its profile above those of its competitors, Coca Cola has launched a new Cinnamon flavoured Coke in the UK. No word from those who’ve tried it on what it actually tastes like, but bloggers on this side of the pond are wondering if it’s hot or sweet? A hot version of Pepsi – Pepsi Fire – was floated market-wide a little over a year ago and it pretty much flopped. We’ll keep an eye on the new ‘Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Cinnamon’ and report back when, and if…

Dunkin’s changing name to reflect focus on Coffee

Dunkin’ Donuts will be no more as of this coming January. The chain is changing its name to a more streamlined Dunkin’ to help refocus its image on Coffee. Doughnuts will remain high on the menu, but Dunkin’s wants to position itself as a competitor in the huge Coffee marketplace by underlining its already massive Coffee sales. In fact, Dunkin’s last year sold 22 percent of the take-out Coffee served in the U.S. compared to the leader, Starbuck’s, which poured 40 percent.

And that’s the skinny…

…On what’s making some of us fatter these days. See you back here in seven for another edition of Fast Food Week!
