McDonald’s tests new Spicy Chicken selections

McD’s is rolling out new spicy menu items this coming week at participating locations across the (US) nation. The new Spicy BBQ Glazed Tenders start with the chain’s regular Buttermilk Crispy Tenders and coats them in a new spicy BBQ Glaze. The Spicy BBQ Chicken Sandwich starts with a standard Buttermilk Crispy (Breast) Fillet and tops it with Onions, Pickles and the new Spicy BBQ Sauce all on a signature Sesame Seed Bun. For a limited time only.

Subway Challenges Arby’s with Pit Smoked Brisket

Arby’s call themselves the guys who ‘Have The Meats’. Now, Subway has some, too. At least, one of the same ones. Subway, which has been once much maligned for its legendary cheapness with Meats – Cold Cuts so thin you could literally read the newspaper through them – seems to trying to turn over a new leaf. They started with a new ‘Meatless Meatball’ Sandwich (using Beyond Meat ‘Meatballs’) and are continuing with a new Pit Smoked Brisket Sub. The Brisket is smoked for 13 hours, and comes topped with Smoked Cheddar Cheese and a ‘zesty’ BBQ sauce on Subway’s fresh store-baked Italian Bread. Don’t know what the actual sandwich looks like, though it’s advertised s containing 185 g / 6.5 oz. of Meat. Wait… It doesn’t say if that’s just the Meat or the whole Sammy. Nor does it say whether that’s a 6 in. or a 12 in. Sammy. Sounds like Subway could still be up to its old tricks…

Burger King offers new Chicken Caesar Sammys

They’re Chicken Breast Fillets which can be ordered in three ways: Crispy, Spicy and Grilled. All versions are topped with Lettuce, Tomato, creamy Caesar Sauce, Bacon and Shaved Parmesan Cheese on a toasted Potato Roll. Available at participating BK locations across the US, for a limited time only.

Taco Bell toasts the Shell

The Bell has come up with another iteration of one of its favourite handheld foods: the Chalupa. This one – the Toasted Cheddar – has all the stuff you’d expect to find in a Bell Chalupa: Lettuce, Tomatoes, Cheddar Cheese, Sour Cream, and your choice of Seasoned Beef, Chicken, or Steak. But the big news is in the Shell, which is double toasted with a crispy coating of real Cheddar Cheese. Coming across the US this coming Thursday.

KFC upgrading Fries?

Arby’s started it with their Spicy Curly Fries. Now, just about every QSR chain serves its own version of fancy Potato Sticks. KFC – which until relatively recently stood pat with its Classic Fries and signature Gravy – is testing something new that draws on the tried true and familiar: Secret Recipe Fries. They’re really just fatter, crispier Fries steeped in the chain’s iconic 11 different Herbs and Spices. My question? Why did it take KFC so long to try this obvious wrinkle? They’re being served for an unspecified period of time at selected locations in California, Indiana, and Michigan.

Pizza Hut snags Official NFL sponsorship deal again…

The Hut hastily took over from Papa John’s last year when the ‘take a knee’ controversy claimed PJ’s claim on the privilege. It’s a long story. And what we really wanted to concentrate on was Pizza Hut’s repeat on the deal this NFL season. And of course, with the privilege comes responsibility…

… Offers special Large 3-Topping Pizza Carryout deal

It’s good for the whole NFL season, at participating Hut locations across the US. There are also NFL-linked promos and contests on tap. Get details at: huthutwin.com .

And that’s the skinny on…

… On what’s going to be making some of us a little fatter all the way through the new NFL season. See you back here in 7 for the next edition of Fast Food Week!
