Fast Food Week!

What a whirlwind week is was! I can hardly believe it’s Saturday again, already. But it is and, therefore, we present our customary compendium of Fast Food News, including dispatches from Burger King, McDonald’s and Taco Bell, and word of something called Pumpkin Spice Wings…

BK Philly Cheese King - © Burger KingIt’s been a while since we featured a shot of a big, juicy Burger here at Fast Food Week.
Why not the new Philly Cheese King from Burger King? Everything a Philly
Cheese Steak should be (BK insists), and flame broiled, to boot…

Burger King fixes ‘flaw’ in Philly Cheese Sandwich

That flaw, BK insists, is the last of flavour-enhancing flame grilling in the traditional Philly Cheese Steak. The Philly Cheese King version consists of two quarter-pound Beef Patties, Caramelized Onions, two slices of American (Processed) Cheese, and warm American Cheese Sauce on a toasted Sesame Seed Bun. That’s a lot of food. Word is that one BK location in Philadelphia is refusing to sell the Philly Cheese Steak rip-off in honour of one of it’s home town’s most prominent culinary traditions. Unless, that is, the BK head office overrules them.

Hot Pepper Madness hits Taco Bell

They’re late to the party, if you consider that most of the other chains have already tried ultra-hot Peppers on their menus and let them fade quietly away. But the Bell is now test marketing a new Reaper Ranch Sauce on Loaded Fries and a Reaper Ranch Quesarito (key image on main page). That’s their usual Quesarito, but with a blend of Reaper Ranch and Queso Sauces inside. Now, the ‘Reaper’ part of the name of the new Sauce stands for ‘Carolina Reaper’, one of the hottest peppers known to humanity and something most folks would avoid rather than covet. But those who’ve tried the Quesarito say the Queso cuts the stabbing heat just enough to make eating one a pleasure rather than a pain. Maybe it’s a good thing they’re only available in Minwaukee, WI, through next month…

Buffalo Wild Wings does Pumpkin Spice?

It’s true. And Don’t ask me why. But BWW is offering Pumpkin Spice flavoured Wings, rendered so by dousing them in a thick, dark red Sauce composed of Beer (‘Ale’) Pumpkin Spice and BBQ Sauce. If it sounds good to you, get out and try ’em now, They’re on ly available ’till the end of the month.

McDonald’s offers new ‘Classic Meal Deal’…

Starting November 1, McD’s will feature a new ‘Classic Meal Deal’, which is, basically, a 4-items-for-(US)$6 proposition. You get your choice from four entree options (Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Big Mac, 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, or Filet-O-Fish) plus a small order of Fries, any size Soft Drink, and an Apple or seasonal Pie. IOt was inevitable, I mguess, that McD’s would sooner or later come out with a deal to compete with Wendy’s 4-for-$4 and Taco Bell’s $5 Box specials.

…Gives Japanese diners Carbonara Fries

In the land of the rising sun, McD’s is offering Fries smothered in Carbonara Sauce. It looks pretty good, at least in the official pictures. They’ve actually offered Bolognaise before, to great acclaim. I hope they bring both treats home to North America, if only as limited-time specials.

Panera launches new Fall menu

There are 8 new items for Fall on the Panera menu starting now. The one I’m most interested in is the Cuban Sandwich. But there’s also an array of Soups, Salads, Turkey Chili, breakfast items and desserts.

And that’s the skinny…

…On what’s making some of us fatter these days. See you back here in seven for another edition of Fast Food Week…
