Cadbury’s Easter (Not) Bunny Pet Tryouts Are Back

Every year, Cadbury’s holds a contest to choose it’s new poster pet for the iconic, annual Cadbury Creme Egg Easter promo. The 2024 playdowns are now ‘in session’. Vote for your fave Cadbury ‘funny bunny’ starting March 11…

Here’s the deal…

You dress your rescue pet up with a pair of Bunny Ears and submit a cute photo to Cadbury’s. Alas, we didn’t hear about this year’s contest until after the submission date had passed. But the ‘playdowns’ have been bracketed, with the first-prize winner being announced later this month. Anyone can vote for their favourite online now through March 11, 2024.

The grand prize is a cheque for $7,000 and the fame of being featured on the annual Cadbury’s Easter commercial for the iconic Creme Egg.

You’ll recall – maybe – years ago when Cadbury’s first pulled the now classic funny: A white bunny ‘laying’ Creme Eggs for Easter. Now, literally ‘anybunny’ can be the Bunny! They’ve had cats, dogs and even a frog.

Like the NBA playoffs…

In a nutshell. Or, perhaps more appropriately, an eggshell: “Each spring, Cadbury puts the call out to pet owners looking to cast the next big star of its beloved Cadbury Bunny Tryouts ad spot,” a spokesperson for the company shared with Food & Wine via email. “This year, for the first time, Cadbury is hopping into the madness of March where furry friends can enter to compete in a bracket-style elimination tournament on Instagram.”

Enhancing a tradition…

“The spring season is a special time for our Cadbury team, but the Cadbury Bunny Tryouts are perhaps the best part of all,” Natalie Shuntich, senior associate marketing manager, Cadbury, at The Hershey Company, shared. “The annual competition has evolved into a moment that consumers eagerly await, and it is an honor to engage with both Cadbury fans and pet lovers alike, making them a central part of our brand. Given the timing of the 2024 Easter season, a bracket approach was a natural way for us to bring the competition onto social media to engage a whole new audience of Cadbury fans.”

My take

The Cadbury Bunny Tryouts can’t be equaled – in their niche – for pure innocent fun. And what a great way to celebrate the childhood traditions of Easter.
