COVID-19: Pizza Hut Canada ‘Hiring For All Roles’

You’d think, during a pandemic when we’re all being told to hunker down at home to prevent the spread of the disease, that nobody would be hiring new staff. Not so for some members of the Fast Food community. Pizza Hut Canada, for one, is doing land office business in take-out and delivery and needs more help…

protocols, and added tamper-proof Pizza box seals…

In a recent news release, Pizza Hut Canada President Tatiana Carrascal said: “The health and safety of Pizza Hut Canada employees, delivery partners and customers is our number one priority. We continue to work closely with our franchisees to adapt our response to COVID-19, incorporating guidance from governments and leading health authorities, in order to safely continue to provide Canadians with the food they love.

“We also want to recognize and thank those front-line workers who continue to work tirelessly to keep Canadians safe and healthy during this time, which is why we’ve launched a free pizza service for these local heroes. On behalf of Pizza Hut Canada, we thank you.”

What they’re doing

The Hut is ‘hiring for all roles due to increased demand’. If you’re interested in the work, you can survey all the ‘roles’ at the Pizza Hut Careers page.

The Hut has patented a new tamper-proof Pizza Box to ensure that your pie won’t touched by anyone by you after it emerges from the oven. The new security seal must be broken by the customer to get at the food. If you thought tampering was not an issue, I refer you to this post about delivery people who were busted snacking on customer orders.

As much to protect its front-line workers as to protect you, the customer, The Hut has instituted contactless delivery and carry-out protocols at all locations.

Pizza Hut has launched a free Pizza delivery initiative for health sector and first responder workers across Canada. Franchisees are working closely with front-line organizations, such as hospitals, clinics and fire stations, within their local communities to deliver more than 5,000 pizzas free of charge to those who are working hard daily to keep Canadians safe.

Together with sister brands Taco Bell Canada and KFC Canada, the Hut has donated $70,000 to Food Banks Canada’s COVID-19 Response Fund for Food Banks to support the essential work they carry out across the country. The donation will be used to bulk-purchase and distribute food, and share resourcing to continue the critical work of food banks in local communities.

My take

Along with other major corporations such as McCain Foods, Pizza Hut Canada is providing a great example of good corporate citizenship and community leadership what all big companies would do well to follow. In situations like the COVID-19 pandemic, we must all work together – as if we were at war – to meet the immense challenge we face.
