Tucci wins Emmy for Searching for Italy
Stanley Tucci (left) – who played Julia Child’s husband, Paul, in the 2009 movie Julie and Julia, won a ‘creative arts’ section Emmy Award for his CNN-produced limited series, Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy. The series was a genuine hit with viewers. and second ‘season’ is reportedly in negotiations. I made sure all you faithful readers out there heard about it, and I’ll let you know when a second-season premiere date is declared.
Brace for Collision! Christmas stuff already surfacing…
For example: Hershey’s has unveiled its year-end festivity specials, which include new Reese’s Peanut Brittle Flavored Cups, Gingerbread Kit Kats, and The Grinch Who Stole Hershey’s Kisses. Add these to the dozens of edible/drinkable Advent Calendars and other seasonal items already announced, along with the Thanksgiving and Black Friday announcements, and the Halloween clamor we’ve all been inundated with (Halloween candy and chips have been in many stores for a few weeks, already), and you have a recipe for the perfect awareness storm, in which all the messages just might be drowned out by the noise.
Speaking of which…
Bailey’s has announced a fall special flavour of its famous cream liqueur: You guessed it: Pumpkin Spice. The official website insists: “The year is split into two parts: Pumpkin Spice coffee and cocktail season, and waiting for Pumpkin Spice coffee and cocktail season. It’s worth waiting for. For autumn, we’ve spiced up Baileys with a twist of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, every mouthful exploding like a tasty firework on a chilly night. Et voila, le Bailey’s Pumpkin Spice. Snuggling up with it is not mandatory, but is highly recommended.” Okey dokey. If they say so… My question: Does this association elevate Pumpkin Spice or degrade Bailey’s image?

It was Monday, September 20. Not as popular as famous (infamous?) Pi Day, celebrated each year on March 14 (3/14), but just as official. October is National Pizza Month. We’ll have a rundown of the specific Pizza Days year-round at that time.
Crazy Alert: Hidden Valley pushes Ranch packets for Hallowe’en
You heard right. This one just couldn’t wait for Fast Food week on Saturday. Hidden Valley is selling dressing packets they’re suggesting you give out to Trick-Or-Treaters. They’re also selling product-themed Hallowe’en costumes – which seems to me to be more than a little ego-indulgent. Then again, other brands have been doing this for several years, already…
