Its celebration week at Quiznos (a big birthday), Chipotle (The Olympics), and Krispy Kreme (the Carnival Season). Free Fries from Fast Food giants?

The answer seems to be ‘Yes’, though they don’t advertise it. TicTok user Orlando Johnson and a friend wondered what would happen if they asked for a free refill of their Fries at a local McDonald’s. They got the freebie, and all they had to do was ask for it! Seems there’s an unpublicised policy allowing a free refill of your large Fries at McD’s. Johnson has since tried the trick at other Fast Food restos including Wendy’s, where he also got free fries.

Quiznos celebrates 40 years

The ‘other’ major submarine shop chain is celebrating its 40th birthday with a Smilin’ Pig Smoked Pork BBQ Sandwich and new Birthday Cake Donut Holes. The Smilin’ Pig features features smoked pork loin, bacon, ham, red onion, cheddar cheese, pickles, and tangy Blue Ribbon BBQ sauce toasted on your choice of bread. The Donut Holes are cream-filled Birthday Confetti poppers, rolled in cinnamon sugar.

Chipotle celebrates Olympic Gold

In anticipation of an avalanche of Gold Medals for the U.S. Olympic team, Chipotle is bringing back Gold Foil Burrito wrappers for the first time in a decade.

The special wrappers first appeared to celebrate the chain’s 18th anniversary back in 2011. Get ’em now through the Olympic games (i.e.- over the next three weeks). And get free delivery when ordering through the Chipotle app and Chipotle.com now through August 1.

Krispy Kreme celebrates Carnival Season

They’ve gotten into the habit of releasing special occasion doughnut ‘collections’ at KK over the past few months, and now seem loathe to let a week pass without a new one. Ergo, the new Carnival Collection, featuring:Caramel Apple, Caramel Popcorn, and Cotton Candy Doughnuts. As all Fast Food sphere  specials, they’re here for a limited time only.

Long John Silver’s, Good Catch partner on Plant-based ‘Fish’

The cunning old pirate is testing a new Plant-based Breaded Fish-Free Fillet and a Plant-based Breaded Crab-Free Cake at five very select locations in California and Georgia, while supplies last.

Good Catch uses a proprietary blend of peas, chickpeas, lentils, soy, fava beans, and navy beans to create fish and seafood substitutes which are claimed to not only taste like the real thing, but mimic its appearance and texture.

Taco Bell suffers from food shortages…

The Bell has become the poster child for recent food shortages affecting the food service industry. The chain posted a social media message to its customers explaining: “Sorry if we can’t feed your current crave. Due to national ingredient shortages and delivery days, we may be out of some items.” The Bell says it’s suffering shortages in key ingredients including beef, chicken, tortillas, and hot sauce. The chain hopes its fans will be patient.

…Nevertheless, unveils new Flatbread Tacos

The Bell has announced a couple of new menu items that sound like the coming of something that should have arrived long ago. New Flatbread Tacos come in two ‘flavours’: Loaded Chicken, and Beefy Potato. They’re available now at participating U.S. Taco Bell outlets, while supplies last.

Post pops Fruity Pebbles Ice Cream

Seems odd, I’ll admit, to see the familiar oval Post Cereal logo on a pint tub of Ice Cream, but I guess that, these days, anything can – and does – happen. It’s described as, ‘Fruity Cereal Milk Ice Cream with Candy Bedrock Bits and a Fruity Swirl’.

There’s also a Cocoa Pebbles version with, ‘Cereal Milk and Chocolate’. The Light Ice Creams feature half the fat and one-third fewer calories than regular Ice Cream.

Novelty Alert! New Most-Expensive Burger

A Dutch resto has introduced what it claims is the world’s most expensive burger. Dutch diner De Daltons has just unveiled what it says is the world’s most expensive burger – ‘The Golden Boy’, with a price tag of (US)$$5,964. It starts with a Gold bun infused with Dom Perignon champagne. Then comes a Wagyu Beef patty topped with Beluga caviar, vintage Iberico ham, King Crab, white truffles, smoked duck egg mayonnaise, tiger tomato pickled in matcha tea, and Kopi Luwak coffee BBQ sauce. One redeeming factor amongst all the overkill: All proceeds from the sale of the first one went to a local food bank.

Novelty Alert! Dominos Japan pops new ‘special’

Dominos Japan – which has lately become known for its ‘stunt’ Pizzas – has launched a new ‘4-flavour’ Pie dubbed the ‘Quattro Nippon Pizza’.

It features four different flavors, each one on its own quarter of the crust, including:  Mentai Mayo Mocha, Hokkaido Three-Cheese, Charcoal-Grilled Teri-Chiki, Charcoal-Grilled Beef. In spite of its exotic nature, the Quattro Nippon is going for a mere (JPY)¥1,300, or approximately (US)$12 a pop.

And that’s the skinny…

… On what’s going to making some of us fatter and – crazier – over the coming days and months. See you back here in 7 for the next edition of Fast Food Week!
