A few noteworthy announcements from various chains this past week. But the real juicy content comes from abroad as DQ France and McD’s China (those wild and crazy guys!) reveal limited-time specials we all wish were available here, too. And Pringles adds yet another ‘unlikely’ new chip flavour…
The IHOP Extra Thick Bacon Selection: Something for every Bacon-Lover…
IHOP features new Bacon slabs
IHOP is featuring a new Extra-Thick-Cut Bacon on it’s steakhouse menu, for a limited time. Steakhouse Premium Bacon is served by itself or as part of an array of new Bacon Obsession menu items It’s described as: a hickory-smoked, thick-cut piece of bacon five times thicker than the chain’s regular bacon, drizzled with a maple glaze. That new menu lists the following selections: a Steakhouse Premium Bacon BreakFeast; a Steakhouse Premium Bacon Burger; a Steakhouse BLT; Candied Bacon Pancakes; a Maple Bacon Milkshake; an Oreo ‘N Bacon Waffle Sundae; and a $5 Bacon Lovers Combo.
DQ intros Bacon and Queso-topped fries
… And a bunch of other stuff to freshen up its aging 2 for $4 Super Snack Menu. The new menu includes: New Bacon and Queso Topped Fries; New Tropical Lemonade Twisty Misty Slush; a Chili Dog (back for a limited time); Regular Fries; a Cheeseburger; 2-piece Chicken Strips; and Pretzel Sticks with Zesty Queso. Dessert and beverage components round out the new 2 for $4 selections.
Popeye’s reprises Strawberry & Cream Cheese Pie
It’s back! Popeye’s popular Strawberry & Cream Cheese Pie dessert is back for a limited time, at participating locations chain-wide. Here we are without any real indications of Spring weather, yet, and they’re pushing Summer!
Pringles gets self in a pickle
Pringles – the people who invented the perfect, stackable Potato Chip – now have yet another new flavour. It’s Deep Fried Pickle, and it comes in a wavy-cut-pickle-designed can. It’s described as featuring, “dill notes, tanginess, and the batter-coated flavor of deep-fried pickle chips.” Til the end of April only, and only at Dollar General stores.
Novelty Alerts: Wagyu Sandwich at McD’s China…
Those wild and crazy folks at McDonald’s China have done it again, coming out with something the other guys probably wouldn’t even think of as a limited-time special: a ‘Stir Fried’ Wagyu Beef Sandwich. Okay. I don’t really believe it’s really Wagyou Beef at only the equivalent of (US)$1.50., nor do I believe it’s really stir fried. But what the heck. Gotta give them points for marketing creativity. According to the official advertising portrait, it looks more like a new Arby’s menu item than something from McD’s, featuring thin-sliced beef, green chilis, lettuce and cheese.
… and Domino’s does Teriyaki en Français
Yes… And I like the idea. Just like I liked the idea of (whatever chain it was) introducing a BBQ Flavoured Pizza way back when, subbing-in sweet, spicy BBQ sauce for the regular Tomato Sauce base, and topping with typical Tex-Mex ingredients. Domino’s is offering 2 new limited-time Teriyaki Pizzas and a Teriyaki Calzone – in France: a Beef Teriyaki Pizza; a Chicken Teriyaki Pizza; and a Beef Teriyaki Cal’z. Each comes topped or stuffed (as the case may be) with all kinds of great stuff! Again, I ask, “Why there and not here in North America?” I still haven’t got a really satisfying answer from any of the Big chains as to why the other countries get all the good stuff…
