Krispy Kreme débuts ‘Dessert Donuts Collection’

KK’s new limited-time Desert Donuts Collection features Doughnuts that pay homage to three retro, classic, all-American deserts: a Banana Pudding Donut filled with Banana Pudding, dipped in Banana Yellow Icing, and topped with Kreme and mini Vanilla Wafers; a Coconut Cake Donut topped with Cream Cheese icing and dipped in Shredded Coconut; and a Mississippi Mud Pie Donut filled with Chocolate Pie Kreme, dipped in Chocolate Icing, topped with Cookie and Graham Cracker Crumbs and finished with a Marshmallow Drizzle. Elegant enough foe a sit-down Desert, but available for snacking anytime, for a limited time.

Pillsbury rolls out new Snack Bars

Unlike some other Pillsbury baked goods, you don’t have to whack the package against the edge of a countertop or heat up the oven to enjoy new Chocolate Fudge Brownie and Birthday Cake Snack Bars. They’re fully baked and ready to eat right out their individual wrappers. The Brownies are studded with chocolate Chips and drizzled with Chocolate Icing. The White Cake Bars are riddled with Rainbow Sprinkles and drizzled with Vanilla Icing. Get them in boxes of 6 wherever you normally grab snack treats.

Wendy’s partners with Pringles on new flavour

In the latest collaboration between Pringle’s and another food purveyor, the makers of the world’s most stackable Potato Chip have created a Salty snack that supposedly tastes just like a Wendy’s Baconator Sandwich. We’ll let Baconator fans be the judge of that. But it sounds like a (potentially) great idea…

Cheetos adds new Flamin’ Hot Pepper Puffs

Cheetos new spicy snack is pretty much what it;s name implies: Cheese Puffs dusted with Flamin’ Hot Seasoning Powder. But there’s a noteworthy new twist: the puffs are shaped like little Chili Peppers. Alas, they’re only available at Walmart and Circle K stores, and only for a limited time.

Skippy trolls Jif with new squeezable PB Pouches

Skippy, America’s ‘other’ favourite Peanut Butter, will unveil it’s own squeeze-pouch PB products later this month. Last week, you may recall, we spotlighted competitor Jif’s new squeezable PB pouch, touted as less messy and more kid-friendly than regular jars. Also, less wasteful. Skippy’s copy-cat products can make all the same claims, and boast 2 versions: Regular Creamy, Natural Creamy. A third new product that comes in familiar jars, Skippy No Sugar Added Peanut Butter Spread, is available in both Creamy and Chunky styles, as does Skippy Added Protein Peanut Butter. What’s the difference between ‘PB’ and ‘PB Spread’? The Spread contains more than 10 percent non-PB product.

Starbuck’s DOES believe Black Lives Matter

It’s just that employees wearing their own BLM attire on the job violated the chain’s uniform rules. But – never one to let an opportunity pass unexploited – the Premium Coffee purveyor stepped up, after warning employees not to wear unofficial tops earlier this past week, and has ordered 200,000 of its own, official BLM uniform t-shirts which are being distributed to outlets as we write. Watch for the colourful tees to appear in stores this coming week.

COVID-19 Closure Alert! Chuck E. Cheese’s

The popular Fast Food chain famous (or was it infamous?) for crazy kids’ birthday parties is fighting to stay afloat amid reports that it’s burdened with more than $1 billion in debt as a result of the pandemic closures. After posting a fairly successful 3 percent growth rate last year, the 610-store chain seems not to have been able to find a way to adapt its business model to ‘take-out and delivery only’ for the duration. According to the Wall Street Journal, CEC’s leadership has apparently found no one willing to lend it a badly needed $2 million, and faces a $1.9 million loan payment the end of this month.

International Menu Alert: Social Distancing Burgers in Italy

Burger King is selling special Social Distancing Whoppers at its Italian outlets. They’re the same as regular Whoppers, except that they contain three times the usual amount of Onions, ‘to help others stay away from you’. Bravo BK Italy for maintaining a sense of humour amid the country’s catastrophic pandemic experience!

Novelty Alert! Dunkin’s offers Fun Face Masks

Dunkin’s is offering reusable cloth face masks, featuring colourful, brand-inspired designs, at its online store. Each mask is (US)$10., but $3 from each sale goes to the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation which supports health and hunger relief for children in under-served communities.

And that’s the skinny…

… On what’s going be making some of us fatter in the days and weeks to come. See you back here in 7 for another edition of Fast Food Week!
